Okay. It's time for me to move onto the next mod. And that would be something involving the exhaust.

I want a downpipe. Flat-out. The question is .. WHICH downpipe?

I live out in Central PA -- where we currently do NOT have emissions. And I know what everyone's automatic response to that is gonna be .. CATLESS DOWNPIPE! I know, I know! But the thing is, my area may be bringing emissions back into effect. Which does, yes, suck .. but it's something to consider.

So, what would YOU do?

Would you get a catless downpipe, and just slap the stock exhaust on for the emissions inspection and be a sneak like that? Or would you get a downpipe with the hi-flow cat, and cross your fingers that you'll pass inspection like that? Or would you just say **** it all, and get some type of nice cat-back and not have to worry yourself?

Advice! :D

protosports DP or APEX thermal coated DP

either is good.

i've used both.

To be honest.. I'm not sure if the Protosports would be the best way to go. I have one myself the "Prototype" version and the Flanges would leak. So i had to cut the flanges off and weld some new ones. Don't you get your car smogged in like 4 years? Well if so why don't you just change your downpipe and exhaust when you need to get that inspected. I would recommend getting a hi-flow cat anyways. My car smells like no other. I just gotta make the time to have that done.. If you worried about the cops get a low profile exhaust with not such a big tip.

.. And what is THIS that I found?

From corksport.com:

CORK SPORT 'Power Series' Turbo-Back Exhaust
The all new Cork Sport 'Power Series' Turbo-Back exhaust system is currently under development by our R&D team. All cat converters will be removed when using this system (may not be street legal in some areas). This system comes with a downpipe (pipe that bolts directly to the turbocharger) and piping that goes all the way to the back of the car. As with all of our exhaust systems mandrel bent, T304 stainless steel (high polished finish) is used allowing for maximum flow and power gain. We will more than likely be offering two different sizes of pipe, 60 and 80mm. 80mm being for upgraded boost level applications.
Estimated price of $589 New Product!

Anybody ever heard anything about THIS? A turbo-back exhaust for less than $600? What's the deal??

yeah but that's an estimated price....so who knows what might happen to the price?

i'm definitely getting a dp w/cat since my county is gonna have emissions testing starting next year and i don't wanna have to change out the dp every time. i'm deciding between ion's or apex's or going custom. so far ion is in the lead (they're the cheapest and it will pass CA smog, so it'll pass TX smog) but i have yet to get a price for a custom job.

btw, nice electric cutout jred :)

hehe, as long as i have money (should only cost a little over $200 total) after i get back from australia i think this is gonna be my plan :D

just have to wait til may to find out whether i'm broke or not

.. Anyone have any info on Ion's 3" downpipe-back exhaust? Cats? Price? Pics, maybe, please, I hope?

ion's selling a dp only now as well as their turboback :). they can include a hi-flow cat with the dp for an extra $125. it'll pass cali smog too :). so that's $209+$125 = $334

.. Woohoo! Methinks I smell a purchase comin' Ion's way. In a month or so, that is -- once I recover from all the Christmas spending t'get OTHER people gifts. ;)

Is this the DP you were looking at getting with a cat, Striker? If it is, and you happen to get yours before I do .. let me know how it turns out! :D

yeah so far that's the one i am planning on. though i still am waiting to hear from tommy about pricing for apex's dp w/cat and i'm gonna see how much autologic will charge for a custom one. i'll let everyone know what happens :)

Are you for sure that the Hi-flow cat passes smog?

Defintely Go w/ a Large Downpipe..atleast 2.5"..That's what i got..It's great for helping spool up!

And if you are worried about emmisions..Get a Full 3" exhuast..turbo back..and before you have to go for inspections..get a Nice High flow cat put on!

And your Set!

I have a 2.5" downpipe..that connects to my 2nd cat..

Chas

ProPartsUSA.COM - the hi-flow cats we use pass the CARB sniff test with flying colors. It maynot pass on the visual inspection though.

GaBerry67MS035- if you're not concerned about emissions or anything else and just want max power. You may want to look into our true turbo-back which is a full 3". This will yield you the most power. The down-pipe that Striker187 mentioned is actually from our repetoire of parts that were originally made for the MP3/P5. Our 3" 1-piece down-pipe isn't sold separately.
