Doors auto locking

I noticed yesterday that the doors auto lock on my 08 CX-7 GT after opening them with the switchblade key.

Example - I press the unlock twice and wait about 3 minutes and the doors will lock. I actually went to open the door and heard the doors lock just before pulling the handle. (I had to go back in the house and unlock the car that was in the garage)

They don't beep or make any sound before auto locking.

I think it just started doing this unless I somehow programmed it by pressing a combination on the key without realizing it. It didn't do it the first few days we had the car, just noticed it. (Only had it a week)

Any ideas?

Mike

It is supposed to do this. Say you toss your keys in your pocket and one of the keys presses the unlock button. Now the car you just locked is unlocked. If you don't open any doors within 30 seconds or so (I'm not 100% sure on the time) they relock.

And yes I feel your frustration. I have also unlocked the car and not gotten to it in time. But I guess I rather that happen, than come back to an unlocked car.

I know VW's do this as well.

Our Sport with basic key does this as well. Like it.

man.. now if only it had a feature where you parked your car and you get out, and if you forget to lock it.. after certain time it locks the car if your not around it..

You basically just described the keyless entry on the GT. It locks its self when you leave the vehicle.

really? i have the GT version and there have been a few times that i walked away forgetting to lock the doors.. and it stays unlocked.. is there a way to turn on this feature?

That feature is part of the Advanced Keyless Entry capability provided with the Tech Package. If you have the credit card style fob, you have it. Additionally, a Start Knob, is fitted over the ignition switch, which allows you to start the CX-7 without having to insert a standard key into the ignition switch. Configured in this manner, you can only start the CX-7 with the Advanced Key on your person. If there's a problem with the Advanced Key, you can still start the CX-7 using the auxilliary key and removing the Start Knob. Hope that helps.

hmmm... well i do have the key fob... but still my cx-7 does not lock on its own if i were to forget.. the only time it does lock on its own is if i unlock it, and if i dont get in after a short time period it auto locks... that is why i am curious about this feature, and if its available.. how do i turn it on cause that means i should have this feature too right?

It's a feature that is disabled by default. You have to have the dealership enable it. Unfortunately there is no way to turn it on without having the dealership hook it up to their computer to turn it on.

It's described in the manual on page 3-20.

Some people have reported that dealers have charged for this to be done, other dealers do it free of charge. I'd say have them take care of it when you take it in for something else... since they'll be working on it anyway you have the best chance of not being charged.

My dealer didn't want to do it for me when I picked up the vehicle. I basically said, uhm, it's one of the reasons I bought the vehicle, I'd like it done or I'm not buying it.

Sometimes I just don't understand dealers... I mean activating this is so simple for them. How easy it would have been for them to just say OK and do it as part of the dealer prep process. But they had to make a fuss and now that is the story you will tell when people ask you about your car. It's just such bad business.

Not only did my dealer do it free of charge during the dealer prep, but they did all applicable TSB's without me saying a word.

Now which of these dealers will get more traffic/repeat business from these two stories??

Indeed, it's very frustrating.

The sales department at that dealer is the reason I'll never go back, and the reason I'll warn others not to shop there. Sure, I've had a TON of problems with my CX-7, but their service department has been great to me.

I'd never buy another CX-7 in my life, but if there were a particular mazda model I was interested in, I certainly wouldn't go back to that dealer to buy.

This site tells you how to do it. You should be able to press the MENU button repeatedly until it says AUTO DOOR LOCKS. When you see this press the STEP button and it will turn it on or off. Hope this works. Good luck!!! GO 4x4 IT!!!
