Door chime and Clutch Start

Hi,

I have a P5 and would like to remove the door chime for when the door is open and the contact/engine is on. I couldn't locate exactly the "chimer" which produces this annoying ring.

Also, I don't want to have the press the clutch in order to start the engine. I looked under and there is a switch that is being pressed when the pedeal is pressed. Cannot take it or anything, no space. I also tried to disconnect the wires but then the car doesn't start at all. Any advice?

Why would you want to do this anyway? This protects you when you start the car and still have it in gear... without it you'd do too many unwanted launches...

I have no idea where the chime is located but there should be a wire at the key cylindar that sends voltage when the key is inserted in it, known as the key sense wire. You could just cut this and it should get rid of the key chime.

As for the clutch you have to connect the two wires on the clutch switch to each other to by-pass it. Personally I think it's a stupid idea and the first time you start it in gear you probably will too, or at least your insurance company will when you hurt someone or drive in to a wall.

Thanks for the tips. But are you sure cutting the wire after the key cylinder won't also disable the open door dashboard light and the dome light? I know on my old VW there was a little box which was generating the chime and just took it off.

As for the clutch I have been used for 10 years now to start without the clutch engaged and never had a problem. It's just the way it is in Europe and there is 90% manual transmission.

This is an easy one. Already did it. Remove the instrument cluster, there are 3 connectors. The far left one has like 3 or 4 wires only. There is a white and green ( I think ) snip, snip. I need to verify this with Linux, he has the wiring book. But is done and it just removes the chime.
