what is the general feeling about the iraq situation out there, i know there a quite a few canadians on the board so i am interested to hear their opnion... i have to write a persausive essay and i think i am going to do it about going to war and i an just looking for a little back ground. thanks, and lets keep this thread peaceful(everyone is entitled to their own opnions)

It is a little hard to care all that much when it isn't hitting you personally...The closest I've come to this whole thing is having a buddy of mine in the Navy that was supposed to have been shipped out a week or so ago...I am assuming he did, because I haven't heard from him. If this will help lower gas prices then hell, I'm all for it. When you guys start paying $2.30 a gallon, and you're filling up every two days, you might realize how much gas prices suck ass...

We are going to war because there is enough proof for the US goverment that Saddam has WMD. Point blank plain and simple. As far as soldiers dieing, When we signed the dotted line to enlist, we were fully aware we could die for freedom.

The reason that "proof" has not been shown to the general public yet, is, more then likely, that its still classified info. Relax, and watch, France will be proven to have been helping Saddam gain WMD. How do you think they got the rights to have thier own oil fields in Iraq.

I'm in argeement with Dexter. (I know everyone in this country has a right to there opition). But People we are at war and our troops are fighting to protect the people of this country and to defend our FREEDOM. I think it's real SAD that you can say you don't really care. Everybody is worried about the gas prices raising. So what, we may have to make some changes in our livestyles and change the way we spend money.
THIS IS A SMALL PRICE TO PAY FOR FREEDOM.

Remember the troops are not just there to be there they are fighting to protect us and I salute them for there BRAVERY.
So show some RESPECT and do care because some of them may not be coming home to there families. SUPPORT THE TROOPS.

I guess I'll start as the first Canadian posting this thread.

I never agreed with this war. I still don't think all the evidence is there and that is just confirmed by most of the UN countries apposing this.

Also I think this is going to create a huge backlash against the States. If you were worried about terrorist attacks before, you should be more worried now. Also I wonder how this is going to affect the relationship between the States and the other UN countries.

But since the war has already started I think we should forget, for now, the validity of this war and support the troops that are out there fighting. Lets just hope that this will be as quick as they are saying, somehow I doubt this, and that there is not a significant loss of life on both sides.

I have a bad feeling that this is going to last longer than they thought. And once they finnish with Iraq the North Koreans are probably going to be next and that is going to be one big mess of a war.

Ok all, here it is in a nutshell for you. We dont attack Iraq, they produce WMD, they get them here in the states or somewhere else, and boom, 15 million dead. What do you want, the last time the world asked for proof, the Nazi's came marching in.

The UN countries that opose the war, (France, Germany, Russia) all have interests in Iraq. More countries support this action, then did in Desert Storm.

France: Has thier own oil fields in Iraq. How do you think they got there ? Providing logistical support to Saddam's Regime for tactical and WMD.

Germanyrovided Iraq with more conventional weapons, and logistical support for Nuclear Reactors.

Russia: Owed billions for weapons sold during the late 80's to Iraq. Also gave logistical support for WMD, and we all know that Russia is in a state of poversh and debt right now.

They dont want us going in there and Finding, by force, because the diplomatic way did not work for the PAST TWELVE YEARS, that they are connected to Saddam's program for WMD.

Thats it, point blank, plain and simple. Much of the details are unclassified now, and can be found on the net. Take the time away from this forum to look it up before you reply please, because an educated opinion gets more respect then a half assed opinion. (note:this last remark is not made towards any previous post in this thread, but a direct request for any future post, as you will get flamed then )

I am a US MARINE, unfortunately I have missed the chance on getting called up because of personal family matters that FORCED me to detatch from my unit that is currently deployed in KUWAIT. In the past hours I have seen meny people amassing in the streets in protest for the war against IRAQ. This is fine and dandy until you make it personal by attacking the troops serving overseas, and by stopping traffic to get media attencion to yourselves and your cause. This is not the picture we want our troops seeing overseas, they are only doing their jobs that they have sworn to do. They are there to protect your lives and even countries from the harm that we saw on 9.11.. If you dont like this country or what we do then LEAVE, dont take advantage of the freedoms we give you with our blood and spit in our face! I am tired of some people and governments blinding the eyes of our citizens and causing comotion when we should be united. The countries that are against us in this conflict are coutries that have been dealing with Iraq in direct contempt of the laws passed when we had our cease fire in 91. As for the people that dont care, What would be your emotions if you were there and saw your friend or brother or father get shot an wounded or even killed? would you care then? All of the men and women over there have some ties our family and friends. And we want to see them all come back alive and well. Some of them probably are members of this and other protege forums. Is that the opinion that you would like them to see when they get on their comuter and see?
