Yes to Impulse/Geo Storm but a resounding no to Trooper. Trooper was a big 2.6l four. I had one of those, too. lol to a 1.6l moving the Trooper II.

Are you loling because of what the motor started out as? The same way that our motor started out in a Focus, or the Elise/Exige motor started out in a Toyota?

lol, fail.

WTF?

An orange is red, just not the same red as an apple, it just has more yellow too it, so it's orange colored.

what i meant is that there are different catagories of sports car. Like exotic sport cars .. touring cars, track cars, sports compact.

FD rx7 is a sports but it can't be in the same catagory as a veyron.
apple & oranges = fruits, just differrent kinds of fruits
Rx7 & veyron = sports cars, just different kinds of sports cars

... our car belongs to the sport compact ... sti, evos, type r ... basically a econo box turned sport car

Well, the Veyron, Audi R8, Gallardo, Enzo...etx...are classified as SUPERCARS...not sports cars...So really the RX7 is not in the same class anyway...

and of course cars are classified into different branches of performance/function...and the name "sports car" does not identify with the MS#...so therefore it is not...

Like many others have stated, it depends on the definition you use.

Based on the numbers this car generates, it's a sports car. Based on the fact that you have performance and a lot of space, its a practical sports car.

Based on the "classical" definition (aka british sports car, low slung 2 seat
RWD convertible) then you're looking at the wrong Mazda (the right one being the Mx-5/Miata).

I think it is a sports car, but even though it's a very high value in terms of bang for buck, it isn't an ideal sports car if you're really serious about racing, in a track you need RWD, and for rallying you'll need AWD.

Wow I couldn't have said it better! To me it is a sports car, but just not in the traditional sense.

I think most of you are thinking too long and deeply about this.

OK new to the forum but enjoying the threads. Steppin out on a limb here I agree w/McKraut.

Sports car Y or N

Sport is fun car is fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

= Sportscar(bang)

I don't even know what you are hinting towards. The Impulse was a pretty cool car, and the 2.6 is the big swap that is done.

I guess I am loling at the 2.3 L3T because it is a dud of a motor.

lol! Love you sig man! A lot of folks are confused / don't understand that the MS3 can beat cars that run faster 1/4 times from a roll.

For the record the MS3 is a sports car disguised as a hot hatch. It’s beaten the S2000 amongst other "sports cars" on a race track, it runs 0-60 in under 6secs the in 14flat@ 101, skid pad around .87-.91g’s , slalom in 69mph, and brakes from 60-0 in 111ft. Looks, price, drivetrain layout, etc don’t define a “sports car” sports car is as sports car does. IMO.

i think that a sports car would have to be a two door whether it was a 4 seater or 2 seater. the FWD-train is intended for economy and not performance, though it could be modified to be fast. sports car would be defined, i think, more by the handling of the car and not the speed. my friend has a 10-second 4wd ford superduty. it is faster than probably any ms3 on these boards, but it is still no more of a sports car than it is a ******* monkey. i don't even consider a subaru STI a sports car even though it is AWD and turbo. it is still just a sport-compact. not sports car.

call it what you will, i will call it what it is.

sports cars come in all shapes and sizes. this is by no means the best fastest car in the world. i would probably classify it as a sporty car. for the enthusiest that lives in the real world and cant drive a two seater around all the time.

Sports Car - no doubt in my mind.

Several keys items set it apart from a normal daily driver:

Stock Power - enough said

Stock Supsension - very stiff and ready to play in the corners

Stock tires - Summer tires, with great traction and side wall stiffness that increase cornering capability and feel. Also the width and profile aid cornering. The trade-off is ride and road noise.

Stock Brakes - again, a step above the normal daily driver. Excellent stopping power and resisting fade.

Stock Handling - Overall very good and ready for spirited driving.

Stock Seats - Designed to keep you in place through the higher G corners.

Stock Shifter/Pedals - Short throw, and pedal arrangement to aid heel toe action.

Stock Steering - Tight and precise, again designed with cornering in mind.

Then they gave us a hatch for added functionality!

wow, im pretty amazed with how quickly the poll results are changing. initially it was about a 20/80 spread. now its closing in on 50/50.

wonder what's caused the change (dunno)

Was it purpose built to be a performance vehicle? No. Does it make big compromises between performance and utility? Yes. I can't call a vehicle that does those two things a true sports car, no matter how well it performs.

I know! I am really surprised as well. I have said it before and I will say it again. I love my MS3... practical, economical (in terms of cost -- not gas), fun to drive, but isn't really that close to a sports car. Not trying to start any more crap than is already in here, but when everyday Accord's, Camry's, Altima's, etc., can out perform or hang right with you... You just can't be called a true sport's car.
