ordered a sheet of 3m gloss black vinyl from metrorestyling.

installed it today in about 90 minutes.

cleaned the car w/ dish soap and dried. had the wife help me lay the full sheet at once on the roof. used water and baby shampoo ( 25:1) in a spray bottle. had 2 felt tip squeegees which really helped when it came to getting the vinyl tucked into the rubber trim on the front and rear glass. there are maybe 1 or 2 imperfections that you can see upl close, but otherwise looks good from 6ft or more.

Looks phenomenal! I was thinking of doing this too, and I think this just sealed it. What size did you order, and would you order it again or get another size?

thanks. i had help for around 10 minutes to peel the backing and lay the sheet down.

i would def order the size i got.you'll have enough to do something small with (extra 8-10") but I wanted to be safe than sorry.

get one (or two) of the primer pens, really helped get it to stick on the edges.

the touchest parts really was the initial lay down. i managed to tuck the front and back into the trim w/out much problem.

looks awesome! thanks for the DIY!

what is a primer pen?

do you have pics of the squeegee and primer pen? is 4ft x 5ft enough?

you shoudl measure, but i am pretty sure that the width at the front and rear is over 48inches wide, hence why i went w/ the 5ft wide. i did have a few inches 8-10" extra but it was worth it instead of being too shot.

the primer pen is a little small chapstick size tube of special adhesive. just order the $4 squeegee w/ it ( i got 2)

Also you gotta pull off the roof trim strips. really easy to do.

jeffcarp03, I measured with a tape and the roof is just under 5 ft. wide and just under 6 feet long, being conservative. If you go with a smaller piece you're not going to get full coverage. I'll be ordering a 5x6 piece when I do mine.

yea that looks really good i tried this on my G but it didn't work out too well but you give me hope for my 6

Hey biking4jesus, what's the procedure for pulling up the drip strips? I don't want to screw mine up.

its not difficult really.

you can use a flat head screwdriver (lay down a cloth on the paint) and pry up starting at the rear. it should just snap off. there are 3 clip points. The ends are different than the middle, they kind of look like small nail heads that stick up. it just snaps back on straight down. ive removed them several times on my mz3 and the new 6.

ive been able to use just my fingers. pulling on the side of the strip about 6-8" from the ends i can get it unclipped.
