DIY Oil Change (Tips? Recommendations?)

Hey guys.... kinda stuck here looking for some help.

Went to do the first oil change... and it hasn't been a pleasant experience. First time I've dealt with a cartridge filter... but that wasn't a big deal. What WAS a big deal was the previous oil change person overtightened the oil filter housing. The HOUSING is fine, but the filter was twisted almost 1/4 turn, and the center plastic cylinder is stuck IN the housing. I can't figure out how to get it out, and don't want to shred it trying. Any ideas/suggestions? Is there some magic trick to get the housing to come out besides just pulling away from the housing???

Nevermind..... I figured it out...
Didn't realize that there was a screen/sleeve mounted in the filter housing.... the OLD filter did NOT have a plastic screen/sleeve on the inside, new filter did.... thought to try and slide the filter over it.... and wala....

i work at a car part store so lucky me all the parts are not so damn expensive....well i use wix oil filters and catrol edge 5-30 full synthetic oil......u just cant go wrong with synthetic.....and i do my own oil changes cause i dont let other ppl play with my babe (ms6). The dealer said if i keep all the receipts from all oil and filters i buy i cant void my warranty no matter what. :)

Dude, do yourself a favor and get the spin-on filter mod from SU. Cartridge filters suck and too much work to change. With the SU mod, you can put bigger filters on like the WIX and K&N race filters. Also, try the drain valve plug from qwik valve:

This mod will prevent less spills. With both mods, expect to spend less than 100 bucks. However, your sanity and peace of mind afterwards is worth more. trust me. Also, speed6lukasz is right, use nothing but synthetic on this car--it's a performance vehicle so all should treat it that way.
