DIY Mazdaspeed CAI install & HKS SSQV BOV

Problem solved all I had to do was look at the manual..I had to reset the settings ...haha...I drove around town today... even at "daily driver" shifts you can hear the BOV chirp.. it starts chirping shifting from second to third right under 3k rpm...pretty sweet..I've also notice the higher your gear is the easier the spool. For example...if your on 1st you hear the turbo spool around 3500 vs at 6th gear your hear it at 2500rpm...also I notice highway cruising ... before I got the set up 80mph on 6th gear is about 2900rpm... after the install 80mph the rpm is about 3200rpm...I was like dang...holding some boost...just my 2 cents.

Yup... See? All that worry for nothing. :D

By disconnecting the battery you've reset the ECU to a safe mode. For now the car will run a little richer while it recalibrates itself over the next week or so (depending how far you drive). I'd lay off the low-RPM (high engine load) full throttles during this time. The higher load on the engine with the new components may cause fuel cut. You usually won't encounter this while at speed (3500+ RPM) though. It's mostly in 2nd or 3rd gear. After a few hundred RPM you'll notice the car running smoother and everything will be good.

Enjoy the new mod -- and sound!
NOTE: You may find "blipping" the throttle for whoosh noises irresistable.

Thanks...oh I appretiate on the info about not putting loads @ low rpm via high gear ratio... about the "note" yeah I couldn't resist.... and it's been only me driving...when my gf is with me she's bound to say something about it..."why you keep doin that?" hahaha

Took some pictures of the car and the install have fun

Special thanks to SU for the BOV and for Tiffany @ Showcase she's the bomb got the CAI as a group buy price!! Wooohooo!!!!

im not gonna lie, im not likin the duck tape too much.
makes an otherwise clean mod look very ghettooo.
but anyways, i do have a question..
is it true that aem makes the mazdaspeed intake, and so that way it wont void the warranty? im very tempted to just splurge on the mazdaspeed one, but was just lookin for some input..

From what I have heard...yes AEM intake makes is the exact same one as the Mazdaspeed one..I went for Mazdaspeed cuz of the group buy...wich is lower than regular price..it was 290 shipped.

Installed CPE Xcel Cai and HKS SQV Bov and the hardest part was the Snap ring and Resinator box. Did it without removing tire. Turn wheel all the way to the left and the box came through fine. Those bolts were enough to make you scream.
Can anyone tell me the purpose of the inline filter on the BOV. With the littel vaccum line and zip ties? It's on, but not sure of reason.
Also set up as Recirculating. What about open to Atmosphere? Is one better than the other. Besides sound?

im pretty sure if u use it to open to atmosphere, the car wont like it. i had it set up that way for a while, and the idle is a lot rougher and the cel will come on all the time.
some cars, like the wrx, like open to atmosphere.
others, like ours and the evo, like recirc.
just has somethin to do with the air being shot back through the system as opposed to being dismissed to the atmosphere.
someone please feel free to correct me if im wrong

Absolutely correct...our cars needs to run recirc because of our MAF location...plus form what I have esearched it holds better boost on recirc...I've also notice MPG gain...if I can keep my foot of the gas just to hear the bov flutter...heheh my remedy is to turn up music loud and I be driving normal instead of no music at all ( thats what I did for a couple of weeks and gas milage killed me haha)

Set up for VTA for a couple of days and have to say that no CEL came up and the sound was almost not any different. If anything have noticed a few backfires. The rush of air into the CAI sounds really cool with the windows down, but still winter and YES the MPG has dropped some. Going back to Recirc.

Been on VTA for over a yr and a half...no CEL, idle is fine, the RPMs do drop a lil faster so have to shift a lil quicker and I backfire at least once a day...I like it, but then again I lost that equip that is suppose to make it recirc...came with my HKS SSQV but my jerkoff friend lost it.

duck tape

why did you duck tape the vent to the cold air intake???
have there been know cases of that vent causing the intake to take in water,
