Dislikes about your MAZDA 5

Wouldn't be surprised

occasionally I've been hearing a metal-on-rubber squeaking from the drivers side rear door, right behind my head! this kind of stuff drives me CRAZY! (I can't deal w/ stuff rattling around in the door cubby holes either. any kinds of noises like that I can't stand)
so the door squeaking was pretty bad last night on a road that has a lot of patches. BUT, when I stopped to get gas, I just opened and closed the door hard, and the noise went away! so I guess the sliding doors may LOOK closed fully, but you have to close them pretty firmly or they will squeak.

With the new design of wild angles and lines I wouldn't be surprised that there are squeaks and rattles. I am so glad I grabbed the last 2010 from the lot.

mine's an '09. and like I said, the door didn't seem to be closed properly. you could very well have the same thing occur on your '10.
FWIW, my '09 was the last manual they had too. I like it because it has less; no traction control or stability control. don't need it, don't want it.

Many gripes on my end. We own an 07 and have had nothing but problems. It had 25k miles on it when we bought it and it had cupped tires already. I will sound like i am bitching but it is the little things that annoy me. The second row passanger seal belt pice that is attached to the seat broke (still under warranty), what else...fabric on passanger front door is pulling from where the plastic and frabic meet, the no rear light control in front is annoying, that is it for the interior...for now. I have had to replace both headlight bulbs, both belts, passanger side rear shock, it pulls to the right even after allignment, new less than a year old tires are cupped already, the clear is peeling off of all 4 wheels, finding the correct rear wiper was a pain, have various rattles and squeaks especially in the rear. Now i have a some type of fuel system problem (engine light comes on codes read too lean at idle and some evap codes and the car won't start sometimes becasue of this) now i have to get this fixed. It only has 58,000 miles on it. the whole car seems cheap to me. This is why we are selling it. I know i'm bitching, but my dd is a 2003 grand prix gt with 125,00 miles and the only thing i have had to replace was a tensioner pully and the rotors. The rear pass window won't go down but that is it. My grand prix screams why did you get rid of a grand prix and buy a mazda?!?!? Kicking ouselves for getting rid of the other grand prix. Lesson learned....Next vehicle will be a GM. This concludes my rant.

Regards

I put little pieces of fuzzy velcro between the plastic door material on the inside and the metal where it sits against the door. Same with the back doors. That fixed most of the rattles that I heard around the doors. The plastic piece on the rear door that is above the handle will squeek if there's nothing between it and the metal door.

2010 Sport. I want the temp control to always work, not just when the heat/cool system is on. I want to control the vent air temperature, anytime.
Seats are not comfortable. Too short. Also not tilted enough.

Hit "AUTO", then hit the "A/C" button to turn it off. Turn the temp dial up or down. Maybe I am misunderstanding. It is an unnecessarily complicated system IMO.

I think the auto climate control works perfectly while providing a manual mode also.

Without AUTO on, you adjust temp up/down manually. Turn AUTO on, the a/c is available if needed based on temp, but doesn't run if not needed, and if you just want heat control you can turn the a/c off and leave it in AUTO which is what we do in winter.

If you couldn't turn the a/c off, then people would complain that it runs all the time and if there wasn't a manual mode that would get complaints too.

I agree that it works well, but the controls have odd redundancies. You can achieve one goal by various means, from my experience.

I leave the A/C on all the time. I find it's great for keeping the windows defrosted in the winter, and even in rainy weather it keeps the windows from getting foggy. I just set the temp and let it adjust the rest.

I understand how to get the temp to change, but with the entire system off the temp control will only go 2 degrees. I want the temp control always to work without turning on anything. Old fashioned but I liked it. The vent air temp with no fan could always be adjusted.

Why is it a big deal to have the system off? What is the point? Turn the fan on, set the temp, you don't have to have it in auto.

...and with this electronic system, you have no idea what the temp is set to unless it's turned on. 72* setting in AUTO mode isn't the same as 72* manual mode, so setting the temp without the fan running is almost useless.

^JKoscoe, just curious, how was it a "pain to find the correct rear wipers"?..

Thought i was crazy because the replacement from local auto parts store wouldn't fit. If it wasn't for this site I would have pulled out all of my hair. It's all good now.

Oh good. I was just about to say that I found a replacement at a local O'Reilly's/Kragen parts store. Directly fits, but I didn't like the way the brackets looked, so I decided to swap rubber inserts instead.

I agree with you. Ive played around with the system and noticed when ALL functions are off (display screen is also off), you CAN turn the temp knob to adjust the air flow temp but by only limited to a few degrees change wonder why they even allow that? IMO, its just not a refined HVAC system.

I too like the convenience of all AC all the time (esp. for the kids) but I prefer natural air (windows down when possible) and not have to turn on the blower motor if I dont have too. I get more than enough cabin air flow when traveling at HW speeds during my morning and late afternoon commute when temp is comfortable. The slight throttle lag + AC robbing HP = bad combo but I guess some people don't mind chugging along.

Two additional minor annoyances with the HVAC firmware.

1)When you push the ambient button, it stays in ambient display mode. I would like and prefer (as I see in other cars) that it only displays outside temp for 3-5 secs and return to displaying cabin air flow temp.

2)When the HVAC system is off and recirculate off (open for outside air to come in), the display screen does not show the cabin air flow temp. It also does not show incremental changes in temp, say you want outside air to come in hotter or colder. Think back when temp control was non-digital and you can slide the knob left (colder) and right (hotter) to adjust cabin air flow temp.

I guess I don't quite get it, but I do know what you're talking about. Older cars, because the heat control was mechanical, allowed you to adjust temp of the air flowing through, even when the system was off.

Think about it though, you have the system turned off, so why would you expect to be able to operate it normally?

Leave the fan on the lowest speed, and you have the exact same thing.

What is the point of having it turned off and adjusting temp anyway then, operate it as designed.

I just leave it in auto mode and adjust the temperature between 20.5 and 22 depending on what I feel like. What's wrong with that? I'm too spoiled with automatic climate control now, I wouldn't get a car without that and automatic lights.
