Discount Tire

So I am at a Discount Tire here in Arizona waiting in line. I stand there for about 15 minutes, no s***. Finally I get up to the counter and they ask me what they can do for me. I explained that I would like my wheels balanced because my car shakes. I warned them that it was lowered and the guy said 'no problem'. About 30 minutes later they finally bring the car in. I walk outside and one of the 'tire technicians' asks me if that was my car, of course I said 'yes'. He begins to explain that he cannot balance my wheels because my car being lowered has caused them to wear uneven. I said 'I understand that and I also understand that the bag tires are the only ones that are like that because I had a camber kit installed in the front where the problem was before I rotated my wheels'. He then began to state that 'it does not matter, I cannot balance them'. I said 'fine, please put my wheels back on my car and I will take it up with corporate'.

Now, I have a friend that works at the Discount Corporate office here in Scottsdale, AZ. I called him up over this last weekend and told him what had happened. He asked me to give him a call on Monday morning when he gets to work. I called him this morning on my way to work. He looked up my account and stated that I had bought the free replacement warranty. I'm thinking 'sweet'. He told me that he would call the stores manager and that they will go ahead and replace them. So about 9:15AM I get to the Discount Tire store. I begin speaking with the assistant manager as the manager was busy. He went out and look at my wheels (the rear were off the car because one blew the other day) and told me that because it was the car that caused the problem, they could not replace them under warranty.

Now 10 minutes earlier when I was in line again this morning the guy that was helping the guy next to me was telling this guy that 'no matter the cause of the problem, even if the CAR causes it or you do then we will replace them for free'. I am thinking 'WTF? This guy just told this other customer that NO MATTER what happens we will replace them for free' if you buy the warranty, which I did. So yeah, I am very pissed off right now.

Anyone else had any issues with a Discount Tire like this?

Note: I have since put a camber kit in the front and the tires are no longer wearing wrong.

I've dealt with Discount Tire for more than 15 years at two different shops in the Denver area. I've been through a half dozen managers, assistant managers and more than a few floor staff changes, and never had a problem.

In that time, I've asked for everything from free replacement of non-covered road damaged tires to time-consuming special split-alloy balancing to get rid of minor, but annoying high-speed vibrations, and everything in between with no hassles. Ever.

Re: the road damaged replacements. I shaved the sidewalls of the two rears on my '5 running a 40mm offset with 215/40s and no roll on the fender lips--my problem and the car's problem, if you want to call it that, not the tires' problem. The one seriously cut was replaced without a hassle as "road damaged" even though I'd bought no warranty, as you had.

Go back to your bud at Discount HQ and tell him what happened; this is horseshit and I wouldn't settle for it, especially having paid for a warranty.
Furthermore, you've corrected the problem.

Good luck.

yeh i live in scottsdale and the discount on frank lloyd right and the 101 is always giving me s*** for the same crap. never gone to that location once without having to go back to either get re-balanced or getting all the nuts tight.
lowered and camber= horrible service at discount tire.

Dude come down to the one off I-10 and Chandler Blvd, they kick ass. They never give me crap about pluggin holes and crap and I have brought my truck in there many times for it, and NEVER even bought anything from them. It's a hike to come down here, but it's worth a shot, if your buddy can't do anything.

Oh yeah, if they still don't call the BBB, that s*** get's things done QUICK!!!!

Well, my buddy sort of came through. They gave me a tire for free since I purchased another one for $100. Which is fine, I guess. He was like 'do you want the warranty?'. I replied with 'why the **** would I want the warranty if you're not going to honor it and replace my tire?'. He was like 'um, I don't know'. Yeah, exactly! Dirty bastards. I hate Discount but I only paid $350 for the four Kumho Ecsta 711's tires I previously bought from there.
