Discontinued...

:
2014 Mazda5 Sport auto
Did anyone else feel a little sad when they realized we got moved to the "Discontinued Mazdas" section? :(

First of all, I apologize...I know, it's not the best section title and I feel bad about it...Any suggestions for a different title? I was thinking "Mazdas out of Production" but it's a bit long...If you guys have any, please let me know, thanks!

Changed to "Past Mazda Models"...I'm testing a new layout here, we'll see how it goes...Still tweaking things...

I thought that Mazda5 was discontinued only in the US... Is it out of production worldwide and will not be sold as a new vehicle in any geography?

How about "Honored Mazdas of Days Long Past"(yes), or "Glorious Mazdas of Old"? Actually "Past Mazdas" doesn't seem as harsh. It's good either way. By the way, the smilies selection appears to be broken? :-(

WTF... um it's actually still sold as a 2017 model in Canada - https://www.mazda.ca/en/vehicles/2017-mazda5/overview/ (and in Japan)

Ya know, Can-a-da... that place beyond your northern border... I know you guys just voted in Trump but I didn't think it would get this bad!
You guys could even come on up and buy one!!

And you can get a brand new 2017 GT with leather and a 6 speed manual tranny for $28,825 CDN or for $21,332 in freedom dollars.

Thanks for the feedback so far...Those of you that brought up the fact that the Beloved Mazda5 is in fact STILL produced are absolutely correct and I will relocate the Mazda5 forums accordingly...That said, it appears the Mazda5 will be discontinued worldwide after the 2017 Model Year...There are reports that Mazda plans to stop producing minivans All Together within the next couple years!

Personally, I really dig the 5 (my parents have one) and I'm sad to see it go but glad it's still sold as a current Model in Canada (and to see it still has passionate owners)! :D

Ps...Please keep this thread on topic, thanks!

Thanks for the info -- I did not know that the 5 is being phased out worldwide. Not surprising I guess. SUV's and trucks is what sells in North America nowadays. I'm guessing that minivans are not very hot in other markets Mazda is making a push in either.

Thanks Antoine for responding and reacting so quickly!! Ya I was surprised to see it still sold for the 2017 model year up here... I think they just took all remaining 2016 models from across North America (and maybe other markets?) and brought them to Canada to be sold as 2017 models since it does still sell relatively well up here and always has compared to the US. Anecdotally I see so many of them around the area and have 3 friends who own one.

But I can see why they're discontinuing it as Canadian sales sales (very small relatively) can't justify keeping it in production. Plus if they were to keep it, it would have to undergo a fairly major redesign plus get the full skyactive treatment. And for a new car, it just doesn't compare to other new cars with regards to safety/crash tests and fuel economy anymore. I love our 5, but if I was to buy a new car for the family right now it definitely wouldn't be a 5.
