Disco Potato (GT28RS) Spool Up

I just switched from a GT28R to the GT28RS turbo. It is laggier to me.

Those of you who have the 1st Gen Sleeper Kit (With Log Manifold), and the GT28RS, what RPM do you spool up at?

Did you retune for the new turbo? If not, you might want to do that. The GT28RS has a different turbine A/R than most of the other GT28R's. There are supposively ways to tune your lower rpm sections so as to help the turbo spool up faster.

what A/R do you have. MAM likes to use the .8x AR for top end, which contributes to the lag.

yupper, thats where mine was from, i had somewhat the same results but ive read where people say it spools like 200rpm slower than the t25 but i would guess thats the .6x AR cause since i went back to the stock turbo its spools MUCH faster. but my top end is gone heh.

I have the .86 A/R turbine housing. I haven't really got on it yet, as I am in the process of retuning out of boost. I was testing to see where boost came in, and was like wow, not as instant as my old turbo...LOL! Can't wait to see the top-end on this thing, after I install some water lines.
Check the picture. The one on the right is the "new" turbo. Picked it up with only 2000 miles on it. Got a good deal on it. Brand new they are over $1100, but I got it for much less. (eekdance)

yeah,much slower,but 10PSI on a T25 VS 10 on a GT28RS..........big difference

Went tuning last night. This one definitely shines on the highway. DAYUM!! Jeph, what manifold do you have?

EDIT: Oh I see. You have the tubular. That makes sense now why I see about 10 PSI closer to between 3500 and 4000 RPM's. I have the log manifold.

Yeah, I have the tubular and a 3" downpipe so i guess thats why i spool up quicker.

After some deeper digging, I may have found my lag issue. I am using the Tial 38mm external wastegate, and I have too soft a spring. I talked to PDHaudio83, the previous owner of the kit, and he said that he had like a 4 psi spring in there..lol! This would explain why I had to raise the duty cycle of the Haltech Boost Controller to 90% when I had the GT28R to get it to boost. Now that I have the GT28RS, the duty cycle is at 100%, and it is still laggy as hell. I'm guessing that the 4 PSI spring can't stay closed anymore with the increase in flow. The epiphany hit me like 30 minutes ago on this one. I am looking for a stiffer sping right now.

Here is a chart of different springs, and their ratings for the 38mm Tial Wastegate : Click This Link!

Help is on the way.

Here is the 0.9 BAR (13.053 PSI) spring, and an Irwin Quick-Grip (available at Home Depot). The quick grip is for opening up the wastgate without the top shooting up and hitting me in the face, and for closing the wastegate.
