Difference between FP & FS protege engines??

So I am in need of a engine for my 02 protege 5 and cant find the other thread I created for this a while back. So I had to do another one. I found a engine on ebay that is a JDM FP engine.. and its a 1.8 liter engine.. but it says that it equals and is a direct replacement for the FS 2.0 liter engine. I was wondering if this was BS or if it would actually work in my P5. Heres the auction itself.. any info would again be greatly appreciated... Whats really the difference.. besides the fact that its a 1.8 and doesnt look to have coil packs mounted on the valve cover???

the FP-DE is a destroked version of the FS... it is NOT the same engine

real differences are, shorter deck height, different pistons, rods, crank, cams
and on this particular one on ebay, this is the lower performance version that was used in the capella (626), you can see that intake manifold does not have VICS... this may also have the lower flowing head, can't tell for sure as it depends which year the engine is

on another note, I've been saying before that the JDM FS-DE out of the capella and MPV (which doesn't have VICS) has an intake manifold similar to this one... you can see that this intake manifold has a resonator... perhaps this one will provide smoother power than the US 626 intake manifold people have been putting on?

cool thanks for the response... what about this engine... says its a FS engine.. but then the coil packs arent on the top of the valve cover like normal.. so just kinda curious. Any help would be tremendous... heres the link...

thanks for all your help...

first link... FS-ZE
second link... FS-DE

ok.. guess what im asking here is would these be able to replace the engine that was in my 02 protege 5. Cause it is a FS-DE engine.. right? I mean even if I just used the long block and supplied a head and gaskets and everything for it. It would still work correct??

would i need to get the ECU and the wiring harness to make this complete.. or would it just be able to bolt up and in with my stock ECU and wiring harness... I know how are ECU's are tricky and freaky sometimes... thanks for the help again.. i appreciate it.

The only things I could see posing a problem are emmissions equipment. The ZE ECU won't work in your car anyway...

Ok so I have decided not to go with the FSZE engine because of all the difficulties that would or could come into play... So you are saying that the FSDE engine in the 2nd link would be able to fit then... just trying to make triple sure as I dont wanna spend more money than have to.. hope you understand.. funny story actually... I called the place about the engine and they really had no clue whatsoever about the engine.. it was pretty comedic.. let me tell ya.. but yeah I swear this is the last thing Im gonna ask about... your help is appreciated.. later.

that FS-DE is NOT the one you want to get... it is for the 626 and it's NOT the same motor as your car's

the FS-ZE can be easily made to work with your car

idk... from what I have read on other threads and everything and from speaking with people the FSZE engine would just cause way to many problems and cost way to much to make it work... cause the wiring harness and the ECU and wiring harness would be to hard to track down and Im not gonna get a standalone fuel system... cause yeah they can be a lil pricey.. so I was just wondering if the FSDE engine would fit.. but if not then thats cool too.. I prolly be hitting ken up from protegegarage here soon for a replacement...

what's your definition of easily my friend?

I've been reading around i thought the FS-ZE ECU is incompatible with American Cars let alone the MP5, Yes i'm sure we can use the cams etc..

yeah the ECU is incompatible with our cars and everything.. so from what I have heard I would have to use the stock ECU from the P5 and then get a stand alone fuel management system and then it wouldnt even pass emissions... Im not really sure why that FSDE wouldnt fit... but yeah

You have a 2002 Mazda Protege 5 American Car, The car has a FS-DE i dont know what TheMan is talking about but you have the FS-DE stick with it
