Did I miss something with Brake pad threads?

I am at a loss for un-installing front pads on my MS3. I cant get the stock pads out for the life of me. I know this has been posted before, could someone direct me to it. My searches only show one and the guy is taking the whole caliper apart, I want to avoid that if possible!

Geez my brake pad upgrade has just arrived. I did not know there is some issue with pad replacement difficulty. What is the problem please?

You simply will not be able to get the stock pads out without taking that caliper apart. Please PM me if you figure it out with what you did. take pics! I am killing myself on these...

Of course you cant just take out the pads, you have to take the caliper off the mounting bracket to remove the pads. This is not brembo or motorcycle brake calipers, you can't just slide out the pads. stop wasting time trying to look for shortcuts.

I am not sure you understand what I am saying... I am dismounting the caliper all together. It is only attached to the car by the brake line. You should then be able to push back the spring and pop the pads out. The brakes on the MS3 have a whole additional bracket/spring holding the pads in. It slides back and forth and will not allow you to take one pad out without the other already being removed.

ok, that makes a little more sense. So you don't have enough room to slide the pad out? have you tried squeezing the caliper back in first? that'll give you enough room.

wow on my old dodge I didnt have to remve brake caliper...

On my 01 Neon r/t, you had to remove the two bolts holding the whole brake assembly releive a bit of brake pressure from the piston with c clamps, pull off of disc, support so no stress on brake lines. Pull pads out of clips what is different about the Mazda ahem Volvo brakes? THanks for your help speedster

This is that post from the DIY section...doesn't it get the job done ? Can't that spring retainer get popped out?





"Oh No! This is a very bad idea. Do Not Dissasemble the caliper! Those four star bolts are a major safety issue and should never be removed. To change pads, you need to remove the two sliding pins that are behind a couple of plastic buttons. Then the whole caliper will slide off the disk. Removing the spring retainer will then allow removing the pads one at a time. If you dissasemble the caliper, it is possible it will leak between the two halves or be mis-aligned and you will have braking problems down the line. I repeat, do not take the caliper apart!"

Alright have the right tool now and hope to replace my pads soon. The EBC Red have the tabs for the rear piston/pad alignment. I did not know that if you have that type of piston ( with detents ) you must have the tabs on the pad itself for alignment of them. I will see what is what and report back.
