Did I damage my Intake Camshaft

2002 Protege 5 Turbo
After installing my timing belt and checking that it was dead on 3 times I was knew I was off after starting it for the first time. I was getting a ticking noise and my VAC was at 15. I pulled the valve cover and found this on Cyl. 1's intake camshaft. :(

yikes whoa.. if you need a new stock camshaft I still have mine wrapped up and boxed. Let me know and I can take pictures of it and such.

I've never seen a rusty camshaft, did it get totally dried out while you were doing the timing belt job?
 
it was off by just a couple. I guess they were not oiled enough to cause this. It is not just rust, there is some mild scoring as well. Live and learn I guess... :(
 
This is why god created assembly lube...Good thing you can get a stock cam for cheap from someone on here.
