Hey all. Just a quick shout to thank everyone who's been contributing to the forums with all the info regarding ipod connectivity and so on.
After much reading, and a little checking, I orderd a kit from mp3yourcar.com. Nor surprisingly, its the SAME kit that Dension and Dice Electronics are selling. The difference is that mp3yourcar.com has secure online ordering, whereas Dension and Dice dont. For me, it was worth the extra $50 to be sure my credit card wouldnt get scammed.
In any case, the box is about the size of a pack of cigarettes, with an interconnect cable between the head unit and the controller box. The other cable appears to be a serial to dock connector cable. All it took to get things working was to plug the cables into the box, plug the box into my head unit, and then hide the box and run the ipod cable. I hid the box on the passenger side of the center column, down and to the right of the ashtray pocket. I ran the cable up the passenger side of the center column, and have it coming out of the crevasse between the passenger seat and the column.
When I configured the unit, I set the DIP switches to ipod control, since I like to surf through my music. When I turned on the car, and selected the aux CD in, everything worked as expected. The ipod charged and played through perfectly. I also noticed that when I turned off the car, the controller paused my ipod, and turned it off. When I started the car again, the controller woke up my ipod, and unpaused the song. Absolutely perfect. Another added bonus is that my interior is black, my ipod is black, and the cable is black. everything matches!
Now for the only strange thing. Being a smart guy, I disconnected my battery terminal before getting down to business. When I had everything bolted back together and running, I noticed that my Ambient temperature reading was displaying in celsius instead of farenheit. Now, as worldly as I am, I like my temp display in farenheit. I read through the manual and saw no way of setting it back. I'd rather not call the dealer and have them give me crap, so I was hoping someone else might have an idea of how to switch it. Is it something simple that I missed, or do I need to know some magical button pressing combination? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
