They haven't sent us the invoices as far as I know but I have no reason to expect them to raise the profit any higher on the MSP than their other cars in this price point.
We'll see when it gets here.

Say, at the most recent car show in Anaheim they had an msp with an official Mazda invoice that showed a total of $19,800 which I recall was after shipping, etc. Now, it's $20,500. This all in less than a month....

Sales is volume, not individual. You may make little profit on some sales, however, gouge on others. So, it all equals out. It does take a special person to remain in that line of business. Profits always benefit the dealerships and ultimately the manufacturer. Just my 2 cents of an opinion.

It happens

When I bought my WRX a year and a half ago, I got reamed.
I could only pick between two cars, neither equiped like I wanted it.
One drive and I had to have it.
I'd gladly overpay for one again.
I wanted it, badly, and I was willing to pay for it.
Now I can get one for under MSRP maybe but, I would have had to wait almost a year.
I know what I wanted and I pay a little too much every month but it's worth it.
They even upped the "limited production" and I still want it.

An invoice is what the dealer pays.
$20,500 is MSRP.
The difference between invoice and MSRP is the built in profit.

I'm just saying it is all about value. Is the Mazdaspeed worth $4500 more than a Spec-V. to some, on an emotional level, yes. If my dealer tells me it will be 22.5 for the MSP I will probably just switch my purchase over to a fully loaded 6s and use my Frod discount and get it for the same price as the MSP.
And wrex, not ragging on you but MAzdaspeed is going to be an ongoing thing. Your dealership and you don't have to recoup all your expenses (traveling, brochures, etc) on those 3 cars. The benefit of Mazdaspeed is not only the cars themselves but the attention they bring to Mazda and the dealership which should pay dividends in the end.

Ahh! Stop it! Here are the numbers:

Invoice: $18,466
MSRP: $19,800
MSRP + Destination: $20,500

The only thing that makes the MSP more profitable is that nobody expects to pay less than sticker for one (unlike every other car on the planet.) The disadvantage is that the MSP will not have any rebates, special financing or other offers.

Thanx

Thanx for the numbers.
Sorry if I'm cranky today.
I think your info makes the point.
We get three of the first batch and 3 of the second batch which should be facelifted.

So I spoke with the GM at the dealership today. He told me not to sweat it but he was going to stick to the MSRP ($20,500). This was after I reiterated how the MSP was getting to WRX territory. He'll have a more definitive price after he gets the A OK from the owner. Sounded like he was giving me the Wizard of OZ shtick to keep me on the hook.
I also mentioned to him that I was in line first for the MSP but he didn't seem to impressed with that. It's even noted on my deposit slip.
