after my most recent tranny issues and lack of support from mazda i have decided that i am going to be getting rid of my mp3. But i am having trouble deciding what i should get next, it is either a ford svt contour, or a toyota mr2....right now i am leaning more towards the mr2, what do you guys think?

if i had to chose between the the i would take the svt contour ...hands down..i just hate the looks the the Mr.2..and the contour i think looks badass with the factory body kit..a buddie of mine has one and i love it

hmmm i dunno i still like the contour but its your choice and my opinion..u should add a poll

MR2 all the way. I would NEVER drive a contour. Thats just me though.

Sorry to hear your leaving the MP3 world.

Personally I'd got Toyota. I've owned three of them and they have all been solid as rocks. I also have always had good relationships with Toyota service people. Seems to me that if you're not happy with Mazda, Ford isn't going to be an improvement.

a lot of svt contours have a problem with the svt part. the variable timing mechanism goes wacko and is a b**** to fix. don't do ford when your other option is to go toyota! what's wrong with you? and the mr2... light, nimble, fast, upgradeable. but you lose out on 2 seating spots. hmm... what are your priorities?

i like the two seat feature of the mr2, i mean it is a bad ass car, i just wanted to see what everyone thought of this car, and had any input to it. IF i do get one, i am looking at upgrading the turbo first, and then i will be working on the suspension. The only issue i have with it is, most of the parts made for it are very expensive, which means they are quality, but i don't have very deep pockets......

I'd go with the MR2 as well. IMO it looks way better than the SVT contour. Plus mid-late 90s fords had really cheap interiors (used to own a taurus) that have constant rattles depending on wether conditions.

SCC did a complete write up on engine swapping the stock MR2 turbo engine with a V6 from the Camery Solara / ES300 which fits in the engine bay better, get similar HSP #s with no turbo lag and better hi-end tuning potential. If you end up getting an MR2 and are interested send me a PM and I'll scan in the article and send you a pdf.

I appologize for my ignorance but isn't a mr2 a RWD car? In white lake you won't be happy with that during the winter months (aka October-May ;) ). The contour does have some aftermarket options but I've never been crazy about the appearance. If you can handle a mr2 in the winter months then I vote toyota simply because of styling.

yes, i would like to sell my hood..........as far as the winter months go, i will be fine, winters in southern michigan usually suck anyways....i mean we get hit with a lot of snow but it is never around for long due to the weather constantly shifting up and down.and yes i am aware that a turbo mr2 is going to be hard to find, in fact i don't even plan on finding one inside the state of michigan, i plan on traveling pretty far for one

let me get back to you on the crank pulley, i am not sure if i am pulling that off yet, based on the fact that i am not sure if i still have the stock one, i put it in my garage, but i think my dad might have tossed it.......

MR2 man, esp. if its the turbo cause i dont remember what years those were made, but that car can be made to look, handle and go fast.

Start a seperate post for things you want to sell off of the MP3. If its something your not sure if you have the stock replacement or not let me know I might just want to swap with you.
