Dealer Service Woes

Well today I had my second run-in with the dealer service department. The first was several months ago when my CD player quit accepting audio CDs.

I called them up Wednesday to see if they could help me out by having a part ready for me; I live 100 miles from the nearest dealer. No luck. Basically what happens is my green A/C light would turn off although the button was pushed in, making the compressor shut off. It was worse for the first 20 mins of driving until the switch got warm. But they wouldn't order a switch and have it ready.

So I had to use up a vacation day and drive to the dealer. I also requested that they look at the passenger side window, which knocks sometimes when its coming down. I also asked them to investigate a hissing noise coming from the A/C when the car is off. I also asked them to perform the ECU program for the cold start rattle.

They told me they would give me a loaner if I gave them good marks on their survey.

Four hours later no call so I call them and they say that my car is ready. I get there and they have done nothing do it. So I proceeded to explain to them how I told them what was broken, asked for them to have the part here b/c I'd have to take off of work for a whole day. My wife is 9 months pregnant so I wouldn't be able to take off again to bring the car. He told me to come back in an hour, and I proceeded to tell him that they must fix my A/C or he'll get zeros on his survey. [this dealer is big on surveys]

So an hour later I came back, still nothing. It was then 4 p.m. so I had to talk to the service manager. I explained my situation and that my biggest issue was the A/C, which usually just shuts off for no reason. Finally he said that he would take the part out of a new car.

Hopefully I won't have to go back to the dealer for warranty work. But the problem with the passenger side window will worsen I have a feeling.

Sounds like your car is a little sour.

Sorry about the bad luck with your car.:( And yes dealerships are dicks, thats why I HATE going there. They are the most annoying, unreliable, insensitive group of ppl in the world. Did I mention careless, nonchalant, and senseless.

Yep the dealers are a pain. We bought my wife's Millenia at another dealer. It took them an HOUR to give us a loaner one day, and it was a nasty Buick. I was scared I was going to catch some disease every time I got in it. That and they got grease all in her car afterwards and still didn't fix it right.

I hate having to live with minor broken things on a new car just so I don't have to go to a dealer.

I'm having the same problem with my A/C except it only shuts off on setting-2, all the others work fine. I have to giggle the knob in order to make it come back on. I was thinking about taking it to the dealer but now I don't know. How long did it take for them to replace the part, if it's not to long maybe I'll wait there and stair at them. Maybe I'll take my kids (8,9 yrs old) with me and let them run around screaming and yelling. I know they'll give a loaner then.

Personally...I would NEVER bother with the service manager but ONE SINGLE TIME...if I was not satisfied....go to the top...remember the service manager is an EMPLOYEE also....go directly to the owner of the entire dealership....he has an office there...and tell him/her the entire sequence of events....every thing including the part about the servey and them trying to BUY you with it....be very polite when you do...i.e. don't use foul language but ensure you get the point across that you are NOT happy.....there is ABSOLUTELY no reason to be treated like this...and YOUR negitive advertising to friends and family can do more damage to their business then any ad compain they have...and they know it.

That's EXACTLY what mine did. It would cut off on (2) at first. Then it started doing it on (3). Then it would just cut off as I was going down the road until the switch got warmed up.

It didn't take them half an hour after I told them I wasn't leaving until they fixed it. But on my car, they actually got one out of a new Protege5 (2003). They didn't order the part.

Normally I guess you have to take it, let them order the part, and bring it back.

Mine is a 2003, so you may be looking at the same problem later on down the road. On mine it dosen't happen all the time so I would hate to go to the dealer and then nothing happens. I think I'll wait until it's a little more repeatable.
