DBA Rotors

Howdy all,

Has anyone out there used a DBA Rotor on a SP20 BJII. There is no actual listing for this car on their website, and I've also had my local spare parts boys look into it for me as well. I had a bit of a fiddle with my front brakes this weekend, I've just put in some Lucas pads on the front, and I measured up the hats.

I've found that they pretty much match the DBA 950's. Has anyone else used these? Is there something else I could look at?

Well this one won't fill up your rims, but it is hoped that it'll help me stop a little quicker! (2thumbs)

If you want something that will fill up your rims, then pop onto a site of willwood. I know they've done some stuff for the West Wings car. If you really want to see what can be done the a "Protege 5" then have a look at www.wingswest.com and check out the protege there! Also www.ptuning.com has some cool stuff for our cars as well. I've bought from them before, not too bad, but I just don't like forking out all the customs duty on this end! It's a phucn rip off!

you're doing the same thing as me at the moment.

dba does make slotted rotors for the SP20, part no 537 for the front, 539 for the rear.

but i emailed them asking about the 4000 series rotors. the tosser that answered the email said they have no rotors at all for the sp20 because they dont have the demand for it. anyway, i replied back saying that according to their website they do have slotted ones available (and told them the part numbers), so why cant they make them in the 4000 series???

i'm still to get a reply back even though i got a read confirmation from them :(

so if you can, email dba @ sales@dba.com.au and ask them when will they be making the 4000 series rotors for the SP20. the more people that anoy them, the sooner they'll make them! well here's hoping anyway...

One point to note on that is that you have a 2002 model. This model is lacking the 5th stud that we have. ;)

So there isn't exactly a listing as such for the 2003 model yet :(, but after some carefull measuring I've found a front that will fit. I just need to get the back one off and have a look at that too. I'm sure it will also be of the GE 626.

yeah that is what really confused me. the website does say that, but it also says 2.0L. the 2.0L models only come with 5 stud patterns....probably a dba stuff up.

if you're interested, i emailed Trevor at www.brakedistributors.com.au last night asking about possible setups...will let you know when i hear...didnt hear anything today - will give it til next week before i email again.

i actually saw a DBA stand at the 4x4 show this year in Sydney...and from what i remember... they told me it was $160 each...thats just for the slotted ones...dunno if that helps... i wish i had to money to put it in...sigh...

Got an answer from DBA, not great news..

Sorry these rotors are not yet available in our 4000 series as yet,
There is more R&D needed before we release this part number ,
Please contact us in about six months time for further information ,

yeah i eventually got that reply as well :(

i guess the more people that hound them the more likely it is that they will make them. unfortunately i havent heard back from brakedistributors.com.au - will email the other email addy they had listed.

got a reply....will keep everyone informed as to where this goes...

Thanks for the enquiry Andrew and sorry for the delay, but I was considering
the project carefully prior to replying
I was looking into the best and most cost effective method.
Which rotors are you thinking of with the 304mm diameter?
Front wheel drives are often more difficult than rear wheel drives to mod
front ends and none of our other friendly brake companies around Aust have
done a conversion on the 323. That does not mean that it is not possible,
just that we would need to invent the wheel (so to speak).
As for DBA slotted rotors (straight replacement - fit straight on) prices
are $125 each (front and rears are the same price) plus freight ex Labrador
(GST inc).
We have no computerised listing on the hoses so I would need to copy them
off a sample of your existing ones. Prices are $88 for a 3 fitting hose and
$83 for a 2 fitting hose (difference is normally if the hose has a centre
locating fitting)
As for Hawk the HPS Plus pads list a front but NO back. However the fronts
are not available in Australia and would need to be brought in in the next
shipment - waiting time - approx 4 weeks. Price is around the $210 mark
EBC list a Green pad for this vehicle and I am currently waiting on a reply
as to pricing and availability in Aust.
I will let you know later

Anything you need picked up from the coast let me know. I live in Brisbane, but work on the coast. So to save us all a bit of frieght I am happy to pick them up and meet you kids somewhere on the weekend to drop off parts etc. I've been quoted about $135/rotor for the front in a slotted design but with the new Lucas pads I've just put in on the front ($72) I'm not changing a thing. These pads are awesome! are rated to 650oC and just feel so solid! I pulled out the factory items, and I've been told(true or not I don't know) that the factory actually uses Bendix Ultra's. Well if they do, then Bendix have some homework to do, as my pads where cracked like I've never scene before. To be honest, I haven't done that much hardcore breaking, usually I use the gears, but these pads where shot!

Anyway, two more sleeps to Dyno day! See some of you kids then!

BJ
