Just curious...why do you need DRL? Can't you just turn on/off the headlights during the day, as needed? Works for me...quite reliable, you know?(yippy)

As i understand the Canadian models have this.
I'm intrested also, because sometimes you forget and here in EU its punishable by law, when not using DRL.
Just curious - maybe its programmable!

Could somebody know more about this?

I just solved my problem (yes) - I put a piece of black tape over the sensor - now i have perfect DRL when switch is on AUTO.

I know its an old thread, sorry....but I would actually like to add DRL if it wasn't going to be too big of a deal, I thought maybe it would be so simple as to pop a fuse in to activate it since CAN spec does have this, but no such luck as there is no metal contacts in the DRL socket, as for why I would want it, I can say that it increases visibility to others greatly, I can attest to this as a motorcyclist, and when I bought my 1996 Isuzu P/U (same as a S-10) it had DRL and at first I resented it, I didn't want to look "Canadian" (no offense intended, really) but as I looked around I began to notice the the (US spec) cars that had them were much more noticeable, and here in FL its the law to run headlights in the rain and sometimes it starts and stops and is only light rain and if you have DRL they are already on...it only (usually) runs your high beams at 50% power so it doesn't hurt anything...... so again, does anyone know how big a deal it is? im sure if you were to legally import your CX-7 to Canada it would need to be done so someone somewhere must have done it. but of course being both cheap and lazy I will say if it takes more than $10 or 20 minutes im probably out...

I know exactly what you mean chilidog, at first I hated the DRL look but now I agree they make cars much easier to see and add safety. That's the one thing I really want to get on our CX7 to feel safe with my wife driving it. I was hoping to get the Japan/AUS fog lights when they came available in 2009 and wire them up to be on, but I just looked on Mazda's site and they describe the fog lights as "silver accented" so I think its just a silver strip, not a light. Back to the drawing board...

I did find this one time:

but I don't really want to wire it to the HID lights as I doubt you want them running at 1/2 power.

Hi,

my first post on here. I joined because I wanted more info on DRLs.

I have a UK spec car with Fog lights and then sidelights next to them. The same unit contains the turn indicators.

I have auto lights but DRLs will be a legal requirement in the UK soon. Older cars like mine don't have to upgrade, but as I don't have and age related palte, I want to run them to the car looks contemporary.

I also have a background in Volvos which in the EU and UK have had DRLs since the 1970s.
