1999 Protege LX
My Dave B rings don't seem to be fitting well. In his video they just pop on super easy, but mine aren't going on easy. Is it because I have a 1999 protege, and the clusters are a bit different? PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!

i just got mine from daveB and they are a tight fit but my center speedometer ring slowly falls off. do i need to glue it on or something?

Mine are so tight that they won't even pop on no matter how hard I try. I am scared to push any harder cause my hand might slip and break a needle or something. I am thinking about just glueing them on with silicone or something.

just dont glue them! It will cause condensation inside your gauges, and you wont be able to see them. I got mine about a year ago, they fit really tight and I havent had any problems with them falling off.

"damn E, they tried to fade you on Dre Day
But Dre Day only meant Eazy's pay day
all of a sudden Dr Dre is a G thang, but on his
old album cover he was a she thang"

Take your time and be sure you press down firmly and evenly throughout the entire ring. I'd recommend taking off the black plastic piece the ring goes on so you can apply pressure properly.

When I did mine, I covered them with a microfiber towel and then pinched them shut w/needlenose pliars.

I can guarentee you that the year difference is not the issue. I wish I could help you, but mine fit perfectly.

YESSS!!!! Thanks for the help guys, but thanks to Lord Zath especially for the comment about pulling off the plastic peice that covers the gauges. Once I got that peice off, I was able to really go to town and press down as hard as I could to get those Dave B rings to fit. They are on now, and looks great! I'll post up some pics.

P.S. I am still shaking from being so scared about breaking my needles. I have read a million times about people breaking needles, and didn't want to join that club. So glad that these are finally on. Went from a DX cluster with no tach, to a LX cluster with tach, and now to the LX cluster with Dave B rings. I am not messing around with my cluster anymore! Woot, woot for Dave B rings!!!

No problem. I was super careful/scared when I did it, too. Originally I did it your way and then I realized I could take the piece off. Once, I slipped and hit the needle and I was so freaked that I screwed it up.

Thanks again everyone for the help. I love this forum......people are always there to help out quickly. The Dave B rings are on (super tight I may add, cause I had to use every ounce of my 200 lbs to get those suckers on there), and I like the way they look. Props to Dave and Kelly Bodde for answering my e-mails super fast, and even going to the extreme of calling me when I told them I was having problems. They are two very nice people and I highly recommend them for good products and great service. The problem that Dave and I figured out was that my 1999 Protege doesn't have the slight lip on the plastic covering over the gauges that other Protege's have. Maybe it is because mine was made to 2nd gen specs since it was a 04/99 car. Anyways, doesn't matter cause they are on and looking good.

Pic 2 = Newer LX cluster with tach.
Pic 3 = New LX cluster with tach and Dave B rings!

Ha,ha,ha. No way dude, my cluster isn't moving an inch anymore. I am done with my cluster mods.........just too risky to break something.

Looks good! I cant wait to get my street rings soon.

I was gonna wait for the street rings as well, but they were taking forever. So I just bought the Dave B rings....glad I did, cause it makes the gauges look 20 times better.

Agreed. I love the DaveB gauges. I also have the problem that the middle one keeps slipping off when i drive. I have to re-attach every 2-3 months.

yea, i am in the club that broke the cluster, and dude, IT SUCKS!!!!
So, enough modding, enjoy!!

BTW, last I heard was that DaveB had some medical problems. Any news from that? I have been away from the forums for a while....
