Dashhawk problems

Prep yourself for this one. LOL. I have yet to read about this happening to anyone else. A little background: the part of the dashhawk cord that plugs into the actual dashhawk is a bit loose and from time to time, the dashhawk will shut off. Usually this only happens if I accidentally tug on the cord too much when taking the dashhawk out. Well anyway, today when I went to take the dashhawk out, I made sure to be careful with the cord to avoid any short out. Well this time the dashhawk didn't short out, my effing gauge cluster went crazy! As I pulled the dashhawk from its mount, my rpms dropped to zero (car still running mind you), and nearly all of my instrument lights came on; CEL, traction control light, ABS, TPMS, etc. I was like WTF!! Anybody else ever have this happen? I've already talked to MSD and I'll have to source a new cord elsewhere because for some reason, they don't carry spares. (uhm)

It's understandable.

The instrument cluster and the OBD diagnostic port (to which the Dashhawk is connected to) are both connected to the CAN bus.

I'm assuming there's a short in the connector that goes to the DH. So that short is traveling back through the OBD port, to the CAN bus and screwing with the instrument cluster? Am I understanding this correctly?

Thanks for the info.

no spares, no updates, they made it, they sell it, and thats it

and STILL the best data logger

I smell a market

Yeah but that seriously sucks. If I don't find a replacement, I'll end up with a $250 paperweight. And then I'll have to switch to a tuner.....I smell a Hypertech in my future.

You're welcome.

Also, check out the EDGE Insight, new full color dashhawk replacement as MSD isn't making them anymore.

EDIT: Side note, my cable broke right at the molex connector on the dashhawk side, and FES sent me just the connector and pins for a discounted price, and I made the repair myself. Super cool guy, highly recommend.

Yeah, I found that website. Just a matter of getting the money to order a new one. As for the DH itself, I already emailed MSD. They're either replacing the screen or sending me a new one. I just have to mail mine to them. I've been lazy lately. LOL. Thanks for the info though. I may have to look into just getting a new connector and pins.
