damn CEL

alright guys...ive been having some problems with this thaaang since a few months ago. i took it to the dealer because of a loud throw out bearing. he said it was normal that it was a little noticeable. i took it home. a few weeks later i got off the side of a road to check something in the back, and when i got back in and took off while shifting into third, i got a stutter and a huuuuuuge cloud of smoke/soot out of the tail pipe. about a two weeks ago i was driving it up my hill to get towards my driveway and got on it from second to third and when i lay on the clutch to coast something sounded nasty. so i kept going down the road and it seemed to be my throw out bearing making some god awful noise in between shifting when theres no pressure on the bearing. i woke up the next morning and the sound was going away. by the time i got out of work it was gone. about a week ago i was getting onto the highway and i was in fourth and when i got on it....stutter and smoke. this morning i got in my car....CEL. i have a CAI but it never tripped the CEL until now and ive had it on for nearly 5000 miles. i just broke 10,000.

(so, my conclusion for the smoke was the richness of this car.)
(my noise was more than likely the throw out bearing.)

im going to take it to the dealer for a scan but i know people have been getting the 4907H, 4807H, another with the flutter valve, and P2187 recalls. im going to ask for these to be done to my ms3 when i go. any thoughts or comments?

oh and when i first start up the cold makes my car rev to about 2100 for nearly a min then it slowly comes down. i know this isnt uncommon but it still has me un-eased about the whole situ. i wait until the car is warm before i boost, i never boost hard in the rain and....uhhh....dudes and dudetts, i hate CEL's.

My car has a noisey tob too. The dealer beat the s*** out of my car on a 48 mile unjustified road test. So they said they will cover it till 3yr or 36000mi so I'm not too worried now. I also rev pretty high on cold starts. As for the check engine light I'm sure its under warranty don't stress.

I have never gotten the 2187 for being to lean only for being to rich during idle. But then again that the nature of this beast I have created. The stuttering reminds of the CAI. If the MAF sensor is blocked or clogged or w/e the case may be, it will cause such things. I wouldn't be surprised if its an MAF code.

I too have had the CEL for sometime. I just got the p2187 code AFTER I did the latest recall (just yesterday) my CEL prior to that was a p0139 for a slow 02 sensor. I have a new extension for the 02 and I think that may fix the problem. 2187 when you look at it indicates that its associated with the 02 sensor in bank 2 which is the same one that was reading slow before. I will know later today if it works.

I think the latest fix/flash that we get tries to lean out the car a little and for those of us with DP's and extensions that problem is more prevalent. We gota get the 02 closer to the action... IMHO

im going in the morning for the ecu scan and hopefully fix. the thing is if they lean out my car im afraid its going to give me big problems down the road when i put my custom TBE....?? if that is the problem should i just ask them to not do it?

so heres the update for both my CEL and recalls....

code P0456 was performed evap test system passed
checked ms3 for messages non found cleared code

b perform recall 4807H
cause: xxc3uxfx inspect shutter valve only
inspect shutter vave and found yellow dot new valve not needed.....inspection only

d perform recall 4907H
cause: xxc3vxfx perform pcm calibrationupdate
performed pcm update per recall

so in conclusion:

-i have no evap leak in the vac lines.
-the shutter valve is fine
-and the pcm was updated

ok so...people were having vac leaks in the fuel lines?
the shutter valve was getting stuck in peoples ms3's?
and the pcm was....out of date? lol.

can someone enlighten me on why the shutter valve wasnt replaced and why the pcm was updated? i know the valve wasnt replaced because it opens and closes without problem but will it happen in the future? whats the yellow dot mean? and what was the problem with the pcm before hand for them to update? thanks yall!

The shutter valve was getting stuck in position and was not functioning correctly. The yellow dot means that you have the updated shutter valve already installed.

The update for out a/f ratios is optional. There is no problem there. Just an optional update.

well i guess i can complain then. most of my car was already set.

but i still would like to give my dealership a big (upyours)
they're still disliked.

my MS3 did the exact same thing same thing! also did the high rev at cold start. four days after this started i was crusing at about 80 mph and BAM! i heard tha loudest pop and then my car locked up, i almost hit four cars. sounded like metal on metal everywhere. i thought i was hit from behind by another car! turned out the transmission shaft snaped and all hell broke loose. floated two valves and bent a rod. when i had it towed into the Mazda dealer, they tryed to say i was racing the car. after speed dialing my attorney they toned that rederick down. what was interesting was when i went get my personal belongings out of the car. the lead mechanic came over to me and was asking what happened to the car. i told him what happened and he said Mazda knows about the trans shaft problems. seems some shafts have micro cracks in them. i'd go easy on your MS3 till they decide to go public with a recall. otherwise you're going to be in my shoes.
good luck!
