Daily drivers where do you shift at?

I had an 07 mz3 gt sedan and loved everything about it. When it got totalled and i needed another car i decided i still liked the mazda 3 series better than any other car out at the time so i wanted to get another one. I could have just gotten a newer model year mz3, but instead i decided i wanted the turbo. So i went ahead and got one with the grand touring package again (once you go xenon you dont want to go back to halogen)

I am a Federal employee, SOMEONE has to set an example for the youth of this nation. And I REALLY like my job. And with gas prices still somewhere between OMG and WTF, 28-30 per gallon is nice. And, as I said, I have been known to dent the floorboard if the situation calls for it.
Tell ya what, if there is ever a meet at a drag strip or a decent track close to home, I would be near the head of the line to sign up and would assist in attempting to secure a fuel tanker to keep the go-juice supplied. I just dont feel the need to flog the piss outta my daily driver every time the gap between me and the car in front is better then 5 inches. I repeat, I dont have the worlds smoothest technique, and we all know our clutch is about as user friendly as a rusty chainsaw. Even my MOM, who grew up driving a 68 Mustang GT 390 (think the car from Bullit but blue and not green) and my dad who had a 72 Camero SS (one of the last 900 something built) had a hard time with the clutch.

No definitely not. Long Island driving is stop go stop go during rush hour and theres no need to burn up the brakes and flooring it to go 5 feet. Being a stick I usually ride slow and consistent instead of speeding up and slamming on the brakes like most do. But when there is an opportunity and a clear view. I go, go go! Just cuz its fun! btw I had a 73 Camaro with a 350 in it. Was fun until I burnt up the tranny laying down rubber! I was a kid then. :)

Don't really think it matters what manual car you are experienced driving. Bottom line is every car is different so you need to learn how the clutch feels / responds and how the throttle works.

Yeah, the clutch took a while, because it had been 10 years since I drove a manual... but the clutch is fine. In fact its pretty smooth, you just have to take the time to feel where the shift occurs. Also its a sport clutch so its tight the way its supposed to be. I like accuracy! I hope nobodys bucking and wearing neck collars due to shifting. lol!

im a federal employe too! lol. i think im doing a good job lol wg 10 at 22 years old. lol.

I'm at the same as others on here at 2200-2500, sometimes going to around 3 on daily driving.

1-2 shift ~2100-2500
the rest <3000...
i have been known to shift 1-3-5 though... in that case i shift at about 3k if not just under...

The ms3 is a awesome car i actually like that fact that it takes awhile to spool up if your using it as a daily driver. I try to shift before the turbo kicks in so usually around 2200-2800 in all shifts. I would image this would help with gas as well. A stock ms3 normally spools around 3k so keep it under that on normal driving conditions and you should be fine. Of course there are times when you feel the need for speed unfortunately most everyone one here gets that feeling a little to often :)

The speeds have tiny turbos that spool early and fast . . .

I wouldn't say it takes time to spool :). Ive driven a big turbo evo with a big FMIC. Now that takes a while to spool but when it does . . . holy hell.

I drive it like I stole it, (drive) what's the point if your not having fun every day. If I wanted to drive like Grandma I'd be driving a Buick or something... My DD was purchased to have some fun... (cool)

does any body experience REALLY rough shifts when the tranny fluid is cold...just the first two or three shifts?

I normally shift at 2700-3k but when I was having a small problem with my car the service guy at the dealer hopped in for a test drive with me and he was bringing it to freaking redline (nearly) in a small neighborhood.
