So last week my car was makin a horrible noise whenever I braked. At high speed it was a squeak and as the car slowed down it would turn into a moaning sound. The sound was only made when the brakes were applied so I figured that was my problem. After replacing all 4 sets of pads and having all rotors resurfaced, the noise was gone. That was Saturday. This morning the noise is back. There's no vibration during braking and the noise isn't present if I slow down by just downshifting. I have no idea what's going on here. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

you say the sound is back? Meaning the squealing at high speeds or the moaning at low speeds? Did you happen to follow the bed-in procedure for the pads? The avg bed-in is 6 slows from 35mph to ~5mph (still rolling) with moderate brake applications, then 3 55mph-complete stop i.e. full on braking without locking them up. Yes, they get hot, and yes, it may smoke. Pads have a caoting on them... what pads did you buy? Some metallic impregnated pads will squeal forever...

while were on the subject of brakes...I had my front pads changed this past weekend, but now there's a bit of a burning rubber smell on the drivers side, and when I smell from outside the car it's in the wheel well area...is that just my bads overheating a bit...or should I be worried about something else?

THREADJACKER!!!!! Eh, just kidding. I could be that it's just the pad. You could take the wheel off and see something is getting in the way of the brakes. Did you have someone else do it? Call them and ask, they may have the answer.

hahahaha...I know eh, I was thinking about that as I was posting...lol..

It just started tuesday, after I went through some deep mud [tried to avoid], and I thought maybe some small rocks or some mud up underneath, it's only when I'm stopped though so I was thinking the brakes...this tread jogged my memory so I thought I'd ask...thanx btw.

is maybe your calpier is sticking? feel the rim; is it hot?
maybe your pads are nut fully retracting off the rotors. the pad guides mgiht be bent or not lubed??????

Alright, so I took the car to a mechanic. He toqued down the wheel lugs, checked the strut mounts and basically made sure everything was tight. For a short time (this afternoon) the noise was gone. But just an hour ago the noise was back. So I decided to drive the car a little. Whenever you ease on the brake it makes a noise, but if you hit the brakes hard, there's no noise. Also, when braking in reverse, the noise is not present. The noise is also not present if I use the e-brake to slow to a stop. I'm at my wits-end trying to figure this out. Anybody have any idea as to what the hell this noise is?

u prob got the organic pads (they are noisy) or they didnt put the lil metal things on the back of the pads. if you can do brakes ur self try getting the anit noise s*** for brakes (goes on the back of the pad, the part facing away from rotor) put that on the back of them and it can remove the sound also check your slides and make sure they are greased. i donno if this is the cause just a helpfull sugestion

We greased everything we possibly could LOL. We also put the metel shims on the backside of the pads.

I did put new springs on a few weeks ago. Could the noise be coming from something I f'ed up?

I get that moaning sound from time to time. Only happens at low speeds.. My friends dad is a mechanic and he said it was a good sign that your brake pads needs replacing. In your case, replacing the pads did nothing..so back at square one.. Perhaps try another set of pads?

Who knows man. The sound only comes from time to time. I'm thinking maybe there's somethin up with piston.

I'd have to go with getting some different pads. I've never had good luck with pads from auto parts places with japanese cars/truck. (Been dealing with them since the 70s) Japanese vehicles seem to be pretty anal about plugs & brake pads especially. Usually end up lasting like half as long for 3/4 of the price for the real s***. I'd have to suggest upping the coin for the factory pads unless you can find some glaring obvious other problem.

maybe its the caliburs, i know mine froze up and it was actually forcing the pad to the rotors, anyway i had to get new caliburs/rotors/pads. now its solved.
