CX-9 Performance Intake Kit K&N 77-2583KS

Some worry about the filters. More particulates could go through.
I have replacement K&N filter. Very happy with it for 60K so far.
Cold air? No need. CX9 draws air from right under the hood. ScanGaugeII shows that the air temp is almost the same as the outside temp.
How can it be even colder?
More air volume? Maybe, but don't think it is needed.
Just my two cents.

Wonder why you said that?
Have you tried it personally, or just read the reviews from the web?

Ahhh the K&N debate rears it's head on yet another thread in another fourum. Kept clean and properly oiledl, it has no negative consequences. will it alone get any sort of gains? no. I've built many 500+ hp engines. coupled with a good exhaust system and proper ECU tuning on a dyno with a good tuner, you will get gains. Alone it is nothing but under hood eye candy. I personally would do a drop in K&N replacement filter but only after the warranty expires.

I have a K&N cone filter w/tube on my Titan. I also have a custom exhaust along with a tuned Up-Rev ECU done on a dyno by a good tuner. I am up from 305 hp at the crank to 395 HP at the wheels.

my advice is save your money and do something worth while with it. After all, this is a 5000 lb CUV which handles properly, but it's nothing more.

Any thoughts on how to make it handle better than properly? There is nothing available in aftermarket suspension components for this car. No anti-roll bars. Anyone ever consider having something made?

I have looked into coil overs. I have a buddy in San Diego who builds custom applications for a wide variety of vehicles. From professional off road & drifting vehicles on down. The problem is he has no test mule to use for development. we have some indications of spring rates and over all length, it's just a matter of road testing. I've been trying to work it into my schedule to get to SD to do this but just haven't had time since my wife had a baby. Shooting for the summer.

edit- forgot to mention I have an Energy Suspension catalog sitting on my desk. I plan on getting the CX-9 on a lift and see what bushings can be replaced and what's needed. Since ES doesn't make a kit for us, it's a matter of going through the catalog and piecing one together from their universal parts. Sway bar bushings and end link bushings can make a huge difference, primarily on front turn-in and flattening out body roll.

I think the CX9 handle well better than any other SUV out there (standard suspension etc). This probably the last thing I wanna upgrade (if I ever upgrade mine, now that the missus using it most of the time :p)

Would be interested to see what you come up with. It surprises me how little interest/support there is for this car compared to some others like, say the dodge caravan, which seems even less likely a platform to modify. Yet there is a pretty strong aftermarket for it. I've seen several in my area that had significant suspension and performance upgrades. Then again there was this from a while back...

Since you seem to be a veteran of this debate, can you suggest why the guy above you pointed out the possibility of engine damage? It's a fair question. I am looking at purchasing a salvaged cx-9 that had no collision, just a theft and stripped parts. To replace the air intake with OEM is about $700 but that K&N setup is only $250. Also, my Avalanche has a K&N on it. Bought it used and that's what it had...
