I won't risk it ..
and what the risk?
Ahhh the K&N debate rears it's head on yet another thread in another fourum. Kept clean and properly oiledl, it has no negative consequences. will it alone get any sort of gains? no. I've built many 500+ hp engines. coupled with a good exhaust system and proper ECU tuning on a dyno with a good tuner, you will get gains. Alone it is nothing but under hood eye candy. I personally would do a drop in K&N replacement filter but only after the warranty expires.
I have a K&N cone filter w/tube on my Titan. I also have a custom exhaust along with a tuned Up-Rev ECU done on a dyno by a good tuner. I am up from 305 hp at the crank to 395 HP at the wheels.
my advice is save your money and do something worth while with it. After all, this is a 5000 lb CUV which handles properly, but it's nothing more.
Any thoughts on how to make it handle better than properly? There is nothing available in aftermarket suspension components for this car. No anti-roll bars. Anyone ever consider having something made?
I have looked into coil overs. I have a buddy in San Diego who builds custom applications for a wide variety of vehicles. From professional off road & drifting vehicles on down. The problem is he has no test mule to use for development. we have some indications of spring rates and over all length, it's just a matter of road testing. I've been trying to work it into my schedule to get to SD to do this but just haven't had time since my wife had a baby. Shooting for the summer.
edit- forgot to mention I have an Energy Suspension catalog sitting on my desk. I plan on getting the CX-9 on a lift and see what bushings can be replaced and what's needed. Since ES doesn't make a kit for us, it's a matter of going through the catalog and piecing one together from their universal parts. Sway bar bushings and end link bushings can make a huge difference, primarily on front turn-in and flattening out body roll.
