What sizes are they? for BOSE.

Dash-center (1)?
Dash-tweeters (2)?
Front doors (2)?
Rear doors (2)?
D-pillars (2)?
Sub (1)?

dash center and both sizes are 3.5" crappy paper cones. So are the D-pillars. Not sure about the front doors and rear doors. I llike to find out too.

Front doors are paper cones too that warp from door humidity. Beware if you roll your windows that the humidity may warp the speakers. I had to do an home spacer repair on my driver side door speaker from warping. There are no plastic vapor barriers in the doors to protect the speaker like that in a VW. Sorry to hijack the thread. Let me know if you need a speaker measurement for the front doors.

Front door is NOT 6x8. Mazda threw us a monkey wrench. It is some odd size speakers that I don't know where to get. See pictures. The speaker measures approx 8.5" in diameter, mounting holes are approx 9" across diagonally. I always hate the sound of this car, now I understand why, the front door spears have the oversized woofer.

Anyone know where I can find adapters to bolt on a set of 6.5 or 6x8? Thanks.

It looks to be a co-axial, with an overly sized woofer. Makes everything boomy and lacks definition. Well, what can we expect from Bose.

From my underdstanding Rockford speakers has adapters when you buy the 6x8's

Glad I found this place - the ONLY info I've been able to find on the Bose CX-9 stereo. I too would like upgrade the sound - it's very muddy, lacks depth, no separation, etc, etc. I don't necessarily have a problem with the idea of mid bass woofers in the front doors, with the 3.5" coaxials in the dash - but the execution seems pretty weak. Has anyone tried simply replacing the dash speakers with better ones? Crutchfield has the 3.5" Boston Acoustics for $35, and they are listed as being super efficient (93dbs). Or is it a power issue? Where is the amp in this stereo? HU or outboard?

Also - what is the rest of the system? Those look like little cheap 5" mids in the rear doors, and I think there are more 3.5"s in the rear hatch area pillars.

If it's possible to drop in the Boston 3.5"s in the dash and the way back, and possibly replace the rear door speakers with matching Boston 5x7 ($55), it might be a major improvement. Thoughts?

well - I'm going to find out, and will report back. The BA speakers seem very efficient (actually 92db not 93db), and they drop in into the dash and rear doors. I only got 2 for the dash, as they come in pairs, and I don't think the center really does much on most sources. I didn't get a pair for the d-pillars, as it would require some cutting to get them in, and I'd like to take a look back there first. Again, d-pillar speakers aren't doing much most of the time. Fingers crossed the Bose amp has enough juice to power after-market speakers! On that note, has anyone fiddled with it to see if there might be a gain knob? I had a 2004 Pontiac GTO that had a little amp hidden in the rear qtr-panel, and if you reached around it, it actually had a single lonely gain knob, which helped that stock system tremendously.

I spoke to an installer and this is what he said the fronts are 8" speaker mid bass, mounting depth should not reach 3.5 to be safe under 4 inches, the back by the door is 6.5 and should have no problem finding that Crutchfield is actualy very expensive for these 8", for the 6 1/2 im looking at this

Cadence makes a good product - I've had several of their amps, one of their subs, a pair of boohshelf speakers, and a really nice amp kit - all have been solid. I've had nothing but good luck with Rockford Fosgate amps also.

I found this from Metra website it seems more accurate than scosche
Location Size Depth
Front 1 9 3.2
Front 2 3.5 2
Center 1 3.5 2
Rear 1 6.5 3.2
Rear 2 3.5 2
Subwoofer 1 5.25 3

Supradupe, you put Infinity Kappa's in your cx-9.... how is that working out? I have always been impressed with the sound of kappas in my past cars, and if they make the sizes for the cx-9, that's likely the route I'd go.

I have Infinity kappa 3.5" on the dash, Infinity reference 6x8 on the rear doors. The front doors I plan on putting 6x8 as well, need modification in order to fit. I am fabricating a custom mounting plate in order to fit 6x8 onto a 9 inch hole.

So far, without replacing the front door speakers, the sound has better detail and definition. I cannot wait to finish the front to hear the big difference.

fyi, I use infinity reference for the doors because they don't come with the additional dongles like the kappa has. There is no space for it in the door. Also, I would recommend getting speaker baffles for the new speakers. There is absolutely no protection from water if you replace the factory speakers (they have a foam shade).

ok I finally upgraded my whole system

i kept the Bose factory 10 channel amp, this is running the 5 factory tweeters

I upgraded the following

front doors with Cadence FX8M4 (4 ohm) 8" 250 Watt MidBass Driver Midrange Car Speakers
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350524359506&ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:US:1123

Rear Doors
Cadence XM-68HC Xenith 6.5" 300 Watt 8 Ohm Loud Mid Range Car Audio Speakers
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300662719691&ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:US:1123

I powered these with Rockford Fosgate PBR300x4

I have Brutus BRZ1700.1D and Rockford Fosgate T1D212

I removed the Bose sub and put the 2nd Battery where the Bose used to be.

I'll take some pictures later on and post it here
