CX-7 Performance 0-60

I'll have you know that this thread has been giving me 1/4 mile dreams...literally! The other night, I dreamt all night about runs in the 7. Thanks Heavy!

0-60 in six seconds is very quick for a car this size! Keep us posted if you get into the fives. (drive)

Good post. what else can your data logger do? just curious been looking into getting one that does this and also tells me any codes the car puts out

Well, it pulls many items real time, so I use it as a digital speedometer and boost guage. You can edit it to do almost anything available. Intake temps, ambient temps, mass air flow, throttle position, etc.

More information about the DashHawk is here:

You can get one at http://www.therepmstore.com

7 second quarter miles :) I am happy to get that number to 60 mph!

I will definitely post any new findings. If you follow the normal 1/4 mile logic, the extra 700 pounds of weight over the the Mazda Speed 3 normally translates to a .7 second deficit. So, a high 14 second quarter on the stock CX-7 should be possible.

Here is the Dashhawk as the boost monitor and speedometer.

LOL :)

We are all here to share and hopefully make our onwnership of the CX-7 as painless and fun as possible. Always glad to help in any way possible!

Now, I am curious how much change the CP-E products will introduce to the performance of the car. First up, the Cold Air Intake.

And, here are a couple of dyno runs from the CAI (off the RMstore website) that also happen to illustrate why you need to shift a little earlier on the CX-7. Compare that to the MS6 engine graphs on the bottom and you will see that power comes on a little earlier and drops a little earlier, as well. And, the CAI looks to add about 9 BHP.

Heavy, Have you used it to watch your gas mileage at all? Just wondering how it works with monitoring fuel economy. How big of a difference is there when your cruising at 60 or 75? I've been debating getting one of those

Have not had it too long, yet. I will see if it picks up mileage related information from the computer and report back. I have not been concerned much with mileage. I came from an Expedition, after all :)

I noticed you said the shift delay was down to 300 RPM's after the ECU flash. Is that 1-2 and 2-3? I noticed my 1-2 delay in manual mode is 900 RPM and my 2-3 is about 300. I had the flash done at the dealer about a month ago. Is there a newer flash? 1-2 seems very delayed to me, I wish mine was only 300 RPM's!

Well, for those who turned on the mileage monitoring on their computer, it seems that the engine computer is not set to monitor those items. That would explain the blank screeens. There is no data being sent regarding mileage from the computer. It may simply have to do with the metric versus US item, as well. I wonder if Canadian cars show l/100km. Since we are the sole country on that system that I am aware of, it may explain the skip over.

300 lag from 1-2 and almost none from 2-3. The flash was just recently done (Friday), so it may be different?

And, just did a bunch of mid/high 6 sec runs. So, it can be pretty conistent.

So your dashhawk doesn't pic up any fuel economy info either? And thanks for the post. very informative and useful!!

Glad to help!

I did some back to back testing on a old unused road, and it seems like the good runs are hit and miss. It can swing a full second between. It seems to be all related to the first initial hit on the accelerator. The second variable is to use a torque brake start or simply stab the throttle. With a torque brake, it launches much harder and really makes a difference, most of the time. One of the slowest runs was with this type of start. So, the times swing from 6.4 to 7.4 seconds. Tough to make it consistent.

Do you have a US spec CX-7?

One thing to consider. If you are doing back to back 0-60 runs and the weather is warm, you will probably heat soak the TMIC and see slower and slower times. Did you observe this?

I was happy with sub 7. The traction control would get involved occasionally and slow things up. :)

I have 2 questions...... cause I'd like to use one in my speed6

how "reliable" or maybe I should say "accurate" is the dashhawk regarding 0-60 (and 1/4 mile) times.

is it within the nearest 10th of a second accurate?

2nd question was (regarding where I quoted you) doesn't the CX-7 have a button to disable traction control?

You can only disable TCS up to 18 mph. The ECU will turn it back on at that speed unfortunately. You also cannot disable the DSC at all. On the RX-8, Mazda will let you completely turn off the electronic nannies. But no such luck on the CX-7.

That kind of sucks....... I bet you fan fix that with a nice little CP-E EMS ;)

I wonder what the status is on my speed6, whether it kicks back on or not........most likely it does. Thanks man (drinks)
