Things change over 14 years. The computer can read or calculate speed from various inputs. Everything is tied together these days. Transmission computer, body computer, entertainment, engine management... The computer likely limits speed based on a calculation of gear and engine speed. I used to have a '90 240SX and they had a limiter set at 115mph. Not so fun. The solution some guys did was this:
There are 2 wires coming out of the transmission. These wires go to the speed sensor, this tells your engine/computer/guages/ what your mph/rpm's are. What these guys would do it wire in a switch so that anytime they wanted to go faster than 115 they would just hit the switch and cut off the sensor. Drawback of this is that your loose your rpm/mph readouts on your guages.
