Custom Protege fuel rail

MAtt- you are incorrect..

I just talked to Beau:

Don't worry you keep the FMU!!!! What you are replacing is the STOCK FPR that comes with the car. It resides onthe fuel rail itself. Beau is replacing this with an aeromotive regulator. But you can use any universal regulator.

When installing the new rail, since more gas will be "there and ready for use" the stock regulator won't work.

In my case and pretty much everyone who's boosted- we have two regulators

1.) The Stock regulator AND
2.) An aftermarket regulator (In my case the BEGI RRFPR)

Again.... It's the stock regulator that needs replaced.
Ok, I see now. I thought the stocker would need to be replaced, but the way it came across in some posts confused me a little...

Thanks.

I will start with a greetings to you :)

Now, just for starts... If you think about it this way... the fuel rail supplies injectors controlled by a computer that was set by Mazda to be the most suitable for the car. If you were to just change the rail, aside from looking nice, it wouldn't give you any benefits at all. Because you aren't changing the way in which the fuel is injected into the manifold, the less restriction in the new rail won't have any benefits. Now, something else to think about...If you were to add fuel more fuel to the engine (Bigger Injectors or More Pressure) without adding the air to the engine to match the increase of fuel, you would run rich and actually loose power. Air is the hard thing to add to an engine, fuel is simple. Air is added by forcing it in IE. Turbo, Supercharger, NOS etc. I hope this helped you understand why I feel that a fuel rail might not be what you need right now. Basically, If you add a Header and high flow cats, exhaust + CAI with a larger throttle body, you might see a gain if you change the injector size and then you might have to change the regulator, fuel rail, pump. Mazda has made the injectors with 80% of duty at wide open throttle. This means, if you were to add 20% more air, (a K&N filter might get you 4% topps) the fuel system will be able to keep up no problem. Please feel free to ask and other questions you might have. Later...Brian

The last part they are waiting on are the mounting brackets. Beau did not want to weld anything on to it because that takes away from the cleanness of the piece. It is not far off! He is designing it to accept stock injectors or taller injectors with spacers.

Yes exactly, this is really going to be a nice piece!!! I can't wait to get it on my car. :)

Duane is correct.Right now the machine shop is manufactoring the hold down tabs.We are designing the taps so they can be used with stock and aftermarket injectors(spacers).Other than that the rail's are finished.

Update

Here is some updated pictures. The protype mounting bracket is finished. Please keep in mind these are not finished yet and still need to go to polishing.I thought I would keep everyone upto date with our progress.

The fuel rail work for anyone. However it will only be a looks thing for you.
The rail will benefit those that are FI that are needing more fuel.

Wow that looks damn good. Very impressive! I can't wait to see the finished product. We need to scribe or etch your new logo in these :) hehe
