Custom 2.5" Exhaust

Kooldino,
Where in Trenton? Whats the name of the guy/number for his shop? (I assume its a muffler place). I live only 10 minutes from trenton ... and I have an MSP ... Hook me up with da info! ;)

Also, can you send me the movs? I may have a place to host them ...

Hmmm does that include downpipes? Will that system work for the MSP? Also does the mp3 have 2 cats like the MSP? Did you replace your cat with a high flow cat (becuase I do see one cat on the system..). Thanks let me know =D

I used spool's downpipe.

Yeah, it should work fine w/ the MSP.

Yes, the MP3 has 2 cats from teh factory, but I took them both out and am using a single high flow 2.5" cat.

Thermal R&D also makes 3" in and out cans!! :D :D

That they do.

But unless I had 300hp, it wouldn't be an issue.

Besides, my downpipe is only 2.25"...

I PM'd you his info. If you take your car to him and have him fab a turbo back exhaust system w/ a high flow cat and a muffler...maybe he can make a jig and start selling them on here...

Dosn't really matter how much HP you are making. 3" exhaust always makes a differnce in turbo cars. I wouldn't recomend a 3" down pipe on the stock Spool turbo. With 3" down pipe you run a greater risk of blowing the seals in the turbo. Burning it up. I've seen it happen on a DRAG GEN II turbo kit! :D

I disagree, but if you have prove to back up your statement, I'd love to take a look.

Well, for starters a 3" downpipe won't fit in a spool kit. A 2.25" barely fits. Care to explain why it would burn up the seals??

raz,
didnt we discuss this smoking crack problem of yours already:rolleyes: (hehe)

listen up closely and put down that spoon.........

YES YOU WANT A BIGGER PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL IN THE SYSTEM((( in other words, the ratio between the turbine inlet and the downpipe )))
BUT IF YOU ARE RUNNING A T3 LIKE THE ONE FROM SPOOLIN YOU WONT SEE A POWER INCREASE WITH ANYTHING LARGER THAN 2.5
THE TURBO DOES NOT FLOW THAT MUCH AIR. LET ME SAY IT THIS WAY THE KIT NOR THE ENGINE, HEAD ,INDUCTION, ETC, DOES NOT PRODUCE THE CFM OF AIRFLOW NEEDED TO JUSTIFY THAT DIAMETER EXHAUST. SECONDLY THE TURBOCHARGER OIL SEALS WILL NOT BLOW BECAUSE OF HAVING A LARGER DIAMETER EXHAUST. THE HONDA GUYS MUST HAVE DRUGGED YOU OR SOMETHING ALL THOSE YEARS. INERTIAL LOAD AND EXCESSIVE OIL PRESSURE CAN CAUSE FAILURE FOR THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY INCLUDING THE SEALS.
AND I WONT GET INTO THE COMMENT YOU MADE IN THE NITROUS THREAD HERE:rolleyes:

Yea I have heard that the 2.5 barely fits. On the DRAG GEN II kit we built a 3" downpipe. The DRAG kit comes stock with a t3/t4. We were running 12psi with 3" all the way out. After a few runs the turbo exploded with oil. Oil was pouring out of the exhaust housing. Note that the turbo was fairly new. Well you know a turbo is driven off exhaust. Once you open up the exhaust with a 3" your turbo car can produce as much as 15 hp (ture with Hondas). We tuned a SAAB 900 SE turbo. All we did was run a 3" cat back, 2.5 down pipe, custom intake, Blitz BOV, and we were running 14.2's all day. If you look at all the turbo set ups, the 1st thing to upgrade to make power is the exhaust. You get more bang for the buck!!!

YEA that's some good crack son! Chill out a little. I know your the informative around here  . MY BAD. It's hard for someone else to recomend something, uh. I have worked with a lot of tuners up the east coast. And, WE HAVE PROVEN A 3" EXHAUST PRODUCES MORE HP! Even on a freakin SAAB! So I'm expressing some of my experience. That's what I have seen....umm, k

like i said in the other thread YOU are missing my point. you are picking things apart instead of reading the ENTIRE post. im not trying to put you down but you are jumping from one subject to another without clarifying yourself first.
hp will increase in the higher rpm limits of the engine. that HP has been there all long. you are NOT creating it. you are allowing more flow capacty into the system. but alot of that HP comes at a price . it will effect your overall torque curve. you are the one that needs to chill. whenever i see something that is posted i will add my 2 cents and try to correct the info. we are supposed to work together so everyone can have the right info. not just opinions but fact also.;)
i also learn from this board and many others all the time so try and take things with a grain of salt and be a little more open minded.:D

Perf. I never said a 3" exhaust would create HP. You can just produce more HP out of your turbo setup. Like you said everything flows a hell of a lot better. I was just saying, if anyone who wants to have a quicker setup, this is a simple way to achieve that goal. 3" cat back that is!

Show me a dyno of a car with a Spool kit with 2.5" and then upgraded to 3". :-)

My car will be out of the body shop very soon ! Then it's time to head up to RPMNYC in Queens for my custom Spool turbo kit install. The car has the stock mid section and Mazdaspeed muffler right now. So we are going to do our base tuning with that set up. After that we are going to run a custom 3" cat back and then hit the Dyno again. So I will have some #'s as soon as it has been done. There is really no point for us to run a 2.5" and then swap it out for a 3". I will post the Dyno chart as soon as I get it! :D

Oooh, got to jump in every damn thread, Pat!!!!
"Oh, i just got my motor rebuilt.....oh, I just got my exhaust done!" :p :D

Kool, I hate to bring this up, but you live in Jersey. No, I know the state is the armpit of america ;), I was referring here to the smog test. What are you going to do about that?
