CulRidr's MP3 N/A build (~150whp goal)

Work has already been completed anyway; 15-20 minutes of work? I'll confirm how much effort was done once I go over the gazillion details of the total effort. I told them that cutting up the pan wasn't necessary, and then they told me that this was an easy (and MUCH cheaper solution) so I figured might as well reduce any chance of something happening, and reduce any vibration I can since the front end will be stiff as f*** already!

The spacer pushes the pickup TOO deep into the pan, and smooshes the screen. You now have the pickup tube itself resting almost flush with the bottom of the pan, and it will provide a MAJOR restriction in flow. IIRC AWR stopped including the spacers because of this, but some pans that did come with them were still sold. Before you turn that key, make sure that spacer was not installed, or you could have some serious oil starvation.

Myself, without the spacer the bottom of the screen just touches the pan, leaving plenty of room for suction, and still keeping the pickup submurged as deep as it could possibly be. If you pull that pan off, you might find yourself with a smashed pickup tube.

Is the spacer something that looks like this, except the size of the end of your thumb, about 7 or 8 mm thick? If so, I'll give them a call about this tomorrow. That would be an extra hour of labour for sure since they'd need to take the pan off (assuming they put it on...not sure if he would have if he noticed it didn't fit right...)

It looks something like that, but isn't that. If he did put it on, you'd probably not know it's ****** unless you test fit the pan, then took it off again and found your screen smooshed. But it's a dealership, you'd be lucky if they put all the bolts back in, nevermind check for stuff like that.

Considering the amount of stuff that was checked, the amount of details that have been found/worked out, etc., I am confident they checked just about everything they could. This however, is pretty obscure so I'll grant you that they have not have known...

Another thing to check while the pan is off, get them to measure from the pan flange to the bottom of the pan, and from the windage tray bottom to the bottom of the pickup, leave about 1/16" minimum and you'll be fine.

I'll make sure to let them know (pending an answer on the spacer issue).

On another note, they turned it over yesterday (before I read your post), and it fired right up :)

They didn't let it run long at all seeing as Mazda filters don't seal properly with the oil cooler, so they are looking at various options, and will let me know when they find out which filter fits best seeing as oil was leaking out from there when they fired it up.

So the spacer was put in after all, waiting to hear whether they test fit it or not to see if there was enough of a gap or not.

Car runs pretty well except for the idle, which can't be adjusted at the moment since the screw is stuck. They'll keep the car overnight and into the morning to triple check everything and to do what is necessary to get the screw to be adjustable. Otherwise everything runs smoothly and is essentially good to go. I'm going in tonight to do some paperwork and to have a look at the car before I go pick it up at noonish tomorrow, and have the ECU reflashed in the afternoon... :)

Oh, and the oil filter will now be from a Z24 Cavalier...

Pretty much, with the reality that I have to pay for my gifts before I can play with them (yupnope)

1. The car feels so raw when it runs (didn't take it out of the dealership; tomorrow). Can't wait to run it tomorrow!

2. The mechanic gave roughly half an inch of clearance at the bottom of the pan by shaving down the spacer and using his own gasket (didn't quite get the details, but I'm covered there).

3. I have my endlinks!! :):)
(pix coming later)
