Crusing Speed

Hey there, I received a speeding violation other day; I was curious how much the speed changes when the car is put on cruise control. Because, I thought my car was at 80, but it turned out to be approximately 87~88. Secondly, how can State Patrol judge what speed you are going, if he is going into the opposite direction. Because the office estimated my speed at 90 and then clocked me at 87~88, I thought this could not be done. I am doing research because I don't want the ticket otherwise ALLSTATE will kick me off, so I thought I might start here and work my way around.

Thank

Sunny

there r classes that cops can take that 'certifies' them at judging speed

did he show u the gun?

that and state troopers usually have moving gay-dar

your cruise works based off your speedometer, if your speedometer said you were going 80, that is what your cruise thought as well, are you running stock rims/tires? different sizes can throw off the meters...

Reply to JCell question, he did not show me the gun nor did he tell me what speed i was going at until he gave me the ticket. In addition, I was running late for college, so i did not even bother to look at the ticket until later on in the afternoon.

Reply to Moji question, I am stock except for intake and HKS exhuast.

Thank's

Sunny

I don't have any advice on getting out of the ticket, but worst case scenario, if you are unable to avoid the ticket, just take defensive driving and it will not go on your record, and usually you pay less for the ticket itself that way too. As long as you haven't taken defensive driving in the past year for some other ticket this will work.

hmm, I'd get that speedo checked out, just to make sure it says what you are actually going, if not to help this case, to help from getting future tickets...

If you get you speedometer checked out and it is off your judge will drop the ticket to a defective speedometer, witch is no a moving violation. It will save you money in the long run.

If none of those suggestions work keep checking your mail where ever the cars registration says. If it's anything like here you'll be getting about 30 letters from attorneys who will fight the ticket and get it either dropped or reduced so that you won't get any points

does it say on the ticket if he used radar (x or k, ka) to clock you.
also, if two cars are going opposite direction, when they approad closer, their speeds to each other are equal to both v1 and v2 combined. ,(your speed and his)...hmm. kinda skeptical on this ticket that you got.

The older radar guns would register an extra 10mph if the measured object was targeted directly coming towards it.

It would be lower if the object was measured from the side.

i got a ticket a couple fo weeks ago and recieved 5 letters 2 days later. if this is your first ticket and have a clean driving record an attorney will get it reduced. i paid $250, the attorney pled faulty equipment and thats it. no points and no record!
i'm in NC so it might work a little different where you are, but my my guess is not a big difference.
good luck!
