Cruise Control Questions

So...

Does anyone know exactly what is different between the MP3 and the ES 2.0 protege that prevents us from adding a factory cruise control kit???

There is a rubber knockout on the streering wheel for the control thing. I am just wondering what is limiting us on the mechanical side.

Nothing

There is no difference as far as the "cruise". There are i think atleast two MP3's that have cruise control. There is nothing keeping us from getting it, it just wasn't original equipment. But u can most certainly get it installed for around $250.00-$300.00. I believe the guy with the user-name of Justinessig can give u more info on ur concern. I personally wouldn't want cruise on a race "type" car. But each to there own. Hope that helps.

Yea, I know that we can get aftermarket cruise. But why can't we get a system from the dealer? I want one that has the controls on the steering wheel like in a P5 with it.

Also, if you consider the MP3 a race car you are crazy. Plus if they are worried about keeping the car a replica of the race car then why would they put a $600 radio in it?? And a 30lbs sub?

I think cruise control is the thing that I am most pissed at. Its got everything else.

Maybe the NARDI steering wheel played a part as well? They probably didn't want to mess with adding controls on there. Just a thought...

actually i doubt the steering wheel has to do with the cruise, the 01 ES cruise set up is different than the 02's. we use a small stem that pokes off the column instead of the wheel mount unit. the only thing that would have to be moded for the cruise to work on the mp3 is the strut tower bar. you'd have to buy one specifaclly designed for crusie because the actuator mounts about 1.5" too close to the factory bar.

Thats why i said Race "Type" car. I mean if u want cruise so bad get a p5. Still a good looking car and it has cruise. But our cars are not the clique to have so they're limited in normal functions. Do u really need cruise so much to be so pissed about it. I mean i unbderstand u probably do alot of highway driving but its only cruise.

but no cruise control?
That doesn't make sense.

I have heard 20ESGUY's story before and that is probably why it doesn't have it. Although I have seen strut tower braces for P5s with and without cruise.

I have gotten quotes on cruise from a couple of places but the install and wand looks cheap in my option.

And as far as our car being in a clique of some type that doesn't have cruise??? ( I think that was what you meant, it was hard to read) Check out the competition, every other car has cruise as at least an option. I wonder if they will put it on the MazdaSpeed protege.

And to be honest, I don't do a hole lot of highway driving. Its more of a concern of refinement.
