Creaking/Crunching Noises from Rear Suspension

Not sure if this is a repost, but I haven't seen it in the 2010 forums....

Anyone else with a 2010 model getting bad creaking and crunching sounds from the rear suspension in cold temps? Mine starts between -7 to -12C. It's coming from the back end over dips and bumps.

I was getting this really bad in my '07 Mazda 5 (along with many other owners) and there was never a permanent fix. Looks like the problem carried over to the 2010 models as well.

I know noises are normal in cold temps but these bushing noises are really bad!

Just checking if I'm alone here....

Can't say that i've heard anything quite like that yet myself, but i've heard a few other squeeks from the back hatch area. I believe everyone has come to the conclusion that it's the hatch cover.

However, I will mention that I've heard a TON of odd squeeks and rattels when you get down into those temps. I wouldn't worry too much about it, by the time it gets warm a great amount of them will quiet down. They almost always do.

On the few cold days we have had here I havent heard anything in the back of the Speed3.

We have been spared a really cold winter though.

Cold temps wreck havoc on anything, especially bushing and crap. They stiffen up, along with any lubrication, ie sway bar bushings and grease, probably causing a majority of the sounds your hear. I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Seems to be a pretty common problem in Mazda5 models, despite Mazda's production changes to mitigate it. (See links below.) Crept up on us gradually in our 2008 model, which has been otherwise trouble-free. I can rule out cold weather as being the cause (we live in Hawaii) although some reports suggest low temps worsen it.

is this is a bushing related issue...have fun getting it fixed. My first two mazda's were horrible in cold weather.
