Crack Sites

Gimme a break.....if you own legit software you can get that from the developer in 2 seconds. Those sites are for thieves. Regardless of how "rich" I am (or am not as reality dictates) I would never entertain the idea of stealing software because I can't afford it. That is a tired excuse....I've seen it used many times on the mp3 thief threads too......just because you can't afford something is no reason to steal it.
So your telling me that you have never, not once in your life used a crack or downloaded a MP3? You don't own one CD ripped from downloaded files? You have never downloaded a movie or anything?? I THINK NOT!

Come on man GIVE ME A BREAK!

If you are a PC gamer and you want to download a patch for a game that the creators have released, for free, but the only place that you can find it is on a "crack site" .... would you consider that stealing still?

loj68,

Gimme a break.....if you own legit software you can get that from the developer in 2 seconds.

I don't know what software companies you are dealing with but try to get a no CD code from them...I have yet to get one from the developers. If you know of any please inform me, I am curious.

If I own the software purchased legitimately, Is it not legal for me to get this no cd code and use it?

I am not being a smartass, I am serious about these questions and if this is not a legal practice I would like to know. I am referencing the information from gamecopyworld where they state that it is legal to use these codes if you have a legal version of the game.

now we all gonna get sued from loj68.
but it will be loj68 & some crews vs billions of internet users. ha ha

i wasnt aware such a site existed.. im not to experienced on the internet, i just goto mazdamp3.com(dunno)

norman, bijou and I all make valid points.

some sites say it is not illegal and others may not but billions of others are doing it.

Does anyone else miss GameCopy world? The Feds shut it down a while ago. I don't remember when.

People don't steal software because they can't afford it, they steal software and music because the price is way higher than the actual utility they would ever gain from it.

Damn, its back. It was out the last couple of times I have tried to go, with a message saying it had been shut down.

yo kc5zom.. thank you for telling me about that peer protect stuff..
today, some company called GTE intelligent network tried to seek my comp over 3000 times...thanks to the peer program.
It rejected every single one of them :D

If the software maker puts the no-cd patch out (like they did for Unreal Tournament) then you're perfectly OK as long as you purchased an original copy previously. The no-cd patches created by hackers/etc. are illegal. With my company we don't make "no-cd" patches so if a customer loses the CD or if it gets scratched we verify the proof of purchase and send them another copy of the CD free of charge.....this is the practice with most companies who don't put out such patches.

That's the most nonsense I've ever read. Anyone who thinks that logic gives them a right to steal must have a 3rd grade education. I sure wouldn't get $400,000 worth of utility out of a Bentley but I wouldn't think of going to steal one just to drive around in for a few days. It's weird how digital thiefs don't seem to realize that by stealing you're propagating the very problems that you're bitching about!!! The more you steal the more you drive up costs.....and that's at the core of the "$20 CD" arguments and the "price higher than the utility" arguments.

What? No response? I'm correct arent I?

No....you own the software already and the creators have authorized you to have that patch. It's no use trying to play semantics.....everyone here knows what is illegal and what is not.......and no, I don't have a single illegally downloaded MP3 or hacked piece of software on my computer. I use Linux....our software is all free :)

So you are saying that one of the principles of Microeconomics is incorrect? You might not get 400k worth of utility out of a Bentley, but the person paying 400k worth sure as hell thinks he does, otherwise he wouldn't spend 400k bucks. If you really want to get into it, and my third grade BS Economics edjumacation, then people steal software and hardware because:

A. They don't get enough utility to justify the price to themselves but they receive enough utility from the alternative ("stealing").

B. The negative consequences of the alternative do not create enough disutility to keep you from acting on it. Stealing software has an extremely low chance of negative consequences, stealing a Bentley has an extremely high probability of extremely negative consequences. Don't be a fucktard and compare apples to oranges.

As to the $20 CD bulls***, companies love to say they have lost such and such dollars every year because of software piracy. But that money is only a loss if the individual who stole the software would have purchased it had it not been free. If I steal Microsoft Office, Microsoft did not lose $400 because I would never pay $400 for Microsoft Office to begin with. If a major corporation steals Microsoft Office, then they have lost $400.

Then there is also the price fixing behavior demonstrated in both the software and music industries that fix prices way above where they would be in a competitive environment, etc. etc. Which is why we have $20 CD's to begin with. Which last time I checked we had a little thing called the "Sherman Anti-trust Act" but we also have a pussy for an attorney general who won't prosecute anti-trust cases because they are "bad for business".

Glad I could help. Still, make sure and watch yourself. And the school is probably monitoring your bandwidth usage now that you have been busted.

for school matter, my sygate is doing a very good job of it :D
Thanks again.
I'm also amazed by your knowledge of software, and internet. (bowdown)

It's a fair comparison......how you can you reasonable say that stealing thousands of dollars in software or music is any different than stealing thousands of dollars of cars? My point here was that although I might not get $400k of utility out of a Bentley, I would not entertain the thought of stealing one......however by your logic you would steal one. In both cases there is violation of law and theft of property.....whether the property is physical, intellectual, or digital is of no consequence.

In order to have an Anti-Trust case you must have cause.....there's thousands of record labels and the biggies go out of business all the time while indie labels move up....hardly a case for a lawsuit. Again, your argument here does nothing to further any argument that stealing of this property is somehow ok.
