Correlation for busted cars

:
2007 Black MS6GT
i want to know who out here has blown thier turbo in correlation to the oil they were running PRIOR to any problems.

this car does not come with synthetic oil stock. i have only done oil changes at the dealer so far every 4-6k miles and i have had to ask them and MAKE SURE that they gave me synthetic every single time! it cost around 55-75$ depending on my filter/airfilter/wipers at the time.

did some of you not do this right away? im wondering because it seems like now everyone is switching to this 5w40 after the turbo seals have smoked, but only to kind of cover it up (i know some have had complete sucess). but were you running full synthetic 5w30 before that? and for how long?

I don't believe the switch to 5w40 covers the problem up. It remedies a flaw in Mazda's design.

Ran full synthetic 5w-40 from 4k miles on. Smoked with 5w-40. Went back to 5w-30, problem persisted. Turbo replaced, running Amsoil 5w-30 full syn and has been fine to date.

If you're seals are gone, oil won't remedy the problem. It's merely a cover-up. The turbo replacement is your best bet, to get the latest revision turbo which seems to be holding up fairly well in cars.

Here's the info I've been able to put together for our cars to date:

I have been using Castrol Syntec blend 5w-30 since new with no problems. I don't idle much, and take regular trips to high rpm (5,800 or so) when I am driving (can't vouch for my wife). No problems from my end.

i was told the original fill is Motorcraft 5w30 semi-synthetic, therefore thats what i have always run. its cheap, and seems fine after use (checked others UOAs). my car does not smoke (only test pipe). 35k miles.

I just let the dealer worry about it. I bought an extended warranty so I bring my car to them for every service. I believe they use the Motorcraft, and my turbo doesn't smoke @ 43k miles. I am kind of glad I haven't switched to full synthetic, cause it seems most the people with smoking turbos were running synthetic.

hey steve idk if this is a stupid question or not but aside from running 5w40 wouldn't bolt on parts like a cold air intake, turbo inlet pipe and an upgraded intercooler help with cooling the turbo better creating an end result of less wear and tear on the turbo? i have little miles on my car and am always worried about my turbo going

To be honest, I don't think temperature has anything to do with the seals going. The intake, inlet, and intercooler will help cool the air down, which may cause a slight drop in oil temperatures through the turbo, but not enough to make a difference. Besides, the oil itself is leaking past an inherently bad design, especially at idle. Combine that with the fuel shearing that our cars exhibit after several thousand miles on an oil change (which is somewhat worse with the 5w-30) and you can see what adds up to cause a problem.

I don't get close to redline very often in my day-to-day driving. Should I make sure to take it all the way up every once in a while?

I try to at least once a week. It's been shown to clear carbon deposits and any kind of build up you may have on any internal moving parts. I also will only use Shell V-Power (93 Oct) or BP Ultimate (93 Oct) gasoline to help this too, nothing else.

What is this fuel shearing you speak of?

This may be stupid, but where do you notice this smoke. Under the hood? Out the exhaust?

I'm the second owner, but I know the first owner personally. He had ordered the car originally and it was delivered with 8 miles on the odometer. He immediately relocated the oil filter and started using Castrol Syntec 5W30 at 17 miles. He's so anal it was all logged in a journal.

I have 37.5 on it now and I've never seen any of this smoking issue everyone talks about. I think I'm going to try the 40 weight on my next oil change.
