Corksport motor mount inserts installed

oh ya, there will be more stress placed on the stock bushing, but if it wears out, then you can just replace the whole thing...:D mounts will eventually fail anyways, so replacing them isn't the end of the world!

Ya at 35 bucks thats not bad. My only concer is that the stock bushing is still in there, possibly wearing over time?

I would guess that the bushing should hold up pretty well, as the insert stops it from constantly flexing back and forth with motor movement. If pushed, I would guess that it should last longer than if left stock, and I don't believe it is considered a "wear item" that needs to be replaced unless it flat out breaks.

the flexing is actually bleeding off the energy by sinking it into the deformation of the rubber. if you don't bleed it off via deformation, it needs to go somewhere else, so i'm guessing it most likely causes additional stress to the rubber's contact points with the metal around it. there's two main ways (that i can see) for our mount to fail: 1. the rubber rips apart. 2. the rubber disconnects from the metal that encircles it and basically starts squishing loosely around.

i'm thinking that 2. is the one that we're gunning faster for when we use the corksport inserts, but since mounts last a LONG time (100k+ miles), so what if we lower the lifetime to like 60k-80k? when the time comes, just replace it! :D

how do you like it? :D

love it i even got a cool black eye lol ...trying to rock the motor foward and shove this thing back in with the inserts in it fell out on my face 3x last 2 i had saftey goggles on lol. But i got it in after about 30 min of contortion....

Its a great in between set up. The best result for me was the sloppy 1-2-3 shifting ... ALL GONE !!! Very little increse in vibes and only when cold.

Looking at the pictures of the dogbone mount, and considering the new shape of the factory mount after the inserts are put in, I don't see that the dogbone would be much if any of an improvement over the stock mount with the inserts. Maybe with the extra hard material, but that small mount area looks like it would rock up and down pretty easily, whereas the stock one ends up with a much larger surface area, which should fight rocking even better.

The rocking that the mount is really meant to inhibit is the back and forth movement not side to side movement. Thats what the other mounts are for. I wouldn't expect to feel much difference between the two either. But I don't think that the inserts are really preventing anything from rocking side to side.

Good job on the mod though. I know I loved the new feel after I installed mine.

ya, i just tightened them to the same torque (80 ft-lbs) as i did the other ones. i can't guarantee that's the proper spec, but that's an educated guess that i was willing to live with.

here's a pic of the additional bolts that i loosened (compliments of KaiserSoze from the other forums):

LMAO this would have saved me from my bitchen black eye ...hahahah

Thanks for the props, but I never said anything about side to side movement.
The way this motor is mounted, movement is rocking forward and backward, which would make the mount try to move up and down. I think the larger surface area of the mount with the inserts in place might actually give it an edge over mounts with a smaller surface area (like the dogbone). As I also mentioned, an absurdly stiff bushing material might be enough to overcome that advantage.
I think we actually agree here, I just don't know where the "side to side" thing came from.

lmao still !!! i cant believe i didnt try this. OH well its in and i love it, mod scars are cool anyway.

ohhhh...something to think about: some people have complained about squeaking coming from the insert later on after a while. i think this may be caused by the insert rubbing against the the rubber, so i ended up greasing the insert (the inside portion) with some mobil 1 synthetic engine grease to make sure this doesn't happen. i don't know if i'm being too paranoid here, but i'm pretty darn sure i'm not hurting anything by doing this...=d

Oops, sorry about that. I don't were I got the side to side thing either. Its my first day back at work from the holidays so maybe I'm still getting over my New Years hangover LOL!

LOL!! Something similar happened to me. I was pulling hard on the stock mount while rocking the engine and when it finally popped loose, the thing hit me in square in the forehead giving me a nice cut. I felt like a complete tool LOL!

Mod scars FTW!
