I installed the Corksport motor mount inserts yesterday with some help from my neighbor (need another body to rotate the engine so the mount can go back in). Looking at these pieces, I think that filling in the gap in the rubber bushing may be only the secondary reason these things work. The factory mount is higher in the center than on the edges. This means that it can rock up and down easily when the engine tries to rotate. The inserts, in addition to filling in the gaps, change the profile to more of a hockey puck, the same thickness all the way across. This profile is much more resistant to rocking than the factory version.
The effect is very noticeable. It adds nothing unpleasant to the experience of driving the car.
When starting the car, I now feel it when the engine catches, and when starting out from completely stopped, things are a little different, but not in a bad way. You really notice how instantaneously the car starts moving under those conditions.
Without the slop, the tires don't do their "squirming" when I stomp on the gas so the car just takes off. Oddly enough, logically I know that this has to translate to better acceleration, but psychologically, losing the tire spin due to the engine motion breaking traction makes the car feel less powerful.
So much of our fun is all in our heads, I guess.
Summary, not too hard a swap and well worth the small change and time it took.
