Conversion Complete: Suby to MS3 and loving it!

welcome...glad your like the new ride. they are really nice. I looked at 1 before i bought my 07 wrx.

also op have you seen the new 09 wrx by chance?

also get some pics of the new ride up here asap!

I have seen the mag write ups on the 09 wrx, promising for the direction of the WRX but still not enough change to sway me. Your 07 with a VF34/39 would smash on the stock 09 and still outrun a stage 2 09 WRX. They didnt change enough on it to sway me.

If they threw in the 6 speed I might have considered it. I liked that the MS3 offers a stout 6 speed that IMHO shifts/feels much better than the suby 5 speeds.

As far as the interior goes, well theres really no comparrison. Suby interiors are very functional, driver oriented and have one of the best driving positions I have ever felt but the MS3 takes it to a whole new level.

Lastly I got tired of waiting for Subaru to come out with a DI motor. The EJ257 with DI and a timing chain would be amazing! Maybe I'll come back to Suby someday when they throw in some new stuff (smash)

I'll work on those pics.

The sport speakers sound like those Dell speaker bars that attach to the bottom of a monitor. Literally.

Good thing I've got aftermarket audio now. I still leave the stereo off for the most part so I can hear the engine though! I can't wait to get my HKS SRI!

can you say "sleeper". 1 of the many 268 reasons why i got the car in the first place. thanks for being honest foster.

I agree, very inconspicuos. I actually had a coworker say he saw another mazda hatchback that looked exactly the same as mine and asked, "whats different about yours?" I told him not much and everything (laugh)

What exactly do the bushings do? hard to install?

The speed3 is equipped with rubber bushings from the factory which get deformed during shifting causing a vague feeling. Replacing those with steel after market bushings helps eliminate that so it feels more direct/ solid.

Installation is a breeze; just follow the step by step instructions that come with them. 30-45 minutes tops. Well worth it at around $40 bucks.

I've got to stay off of these forums. It's driving me insane. I ordered my 09 black mica speed 3 a month ago and it's still got a delivery date of November 20th. The mazda guy said he would talk to his regional and try to get them to rush the ground delivery as soon as it gets off the boat. I wonder if I flew to Jacksonvile, FL if they would let me pick it up and drive it back...? Zoom Zoom!

i'm glad i got the "bose" system. i can only imagine what the "sport" one must sound like =P

the blose, factory hids, fuel computer, leather seats, etc wasnt worth the extra money for the GT

i just installed my HID kit, 55watt ballast with 6000k bulbs for 90 bucks shipped. seems that alot of people with the GT has upgraded to 55w ballast

most people ended up disappointed in their blose system so it ends up getting scraped for a GOOD system since its not that good. while the sport system isnt as good as the blose, its not actaully that bad-good enough to hold you over until you upgrade.

only thing i really wanted from the GT are the LED taillights so hopefully i will find one in a junk yard or find someone i can trade with. but woiuldnt mind having the trip computer. i can always buy one of the 07 factory radios for 30 bucks

so when it comes to the GT the blose and factory HIDs are pretty much not a good invest imo.

Good luck when your aftermarket market crap takes a dump on you. Don't go blasting everyone that got a GT because you couldn't afford one. Oh and when it comes time for trade in or whatever I'll get about 1k more for my ride with more standard factory options then your sport model with after market shenanigans.
The “Bose” with you keep calling “blose” isn’t bad for a factory installed system in a 25k car. The factory HIDS are adjustable and look fantastic. The partial leather seats make the interior look 100 X better. The LEDS look badass, especially at night and the other options are nice as well. The GT model is well worth the extra money if you can afford it.

I got a Sport as well. I can't say that putting 55watt HID's in the sport will compare to putting them in a GT unless you upgrade the projector in the sport.

The GT has the proper projector for HID's that gives you the right cutoff, and it's adjustable. HID's in a sport without upgraded projectors will end up projecting too high and pissing off/endangering others on the road.

There's nothing wrong with the Sport trim. I got it mostly because the deal was much better from my dealer vs. the GT he had. My last car was decked out with leather and all the fancy s***, but it was a P5 putting less than 100whp to the ground. My Sport MS3 doesn't make me miss my old car much at all (although I do prefer the exterior look of the Protege5 to the MS3).

Oh wait, there's a Sport vs. GT thread in these forums. Sorry about the derail!

That NASIOC thread is a good read! I'm on page 11! I was drooling over WRX's back in '04. And I'd love to have an STI or '09 WRX given the opportunity.

The leather and Alcantara seats alone make the GT upgrade worth the extra cost over the Sport...when you add the HID, Bose, LED taillights and increased resale value it is a no-brainier IMHO

ya i hear ya...they are going to have to do something to keep attracting buyers...i forsee the sti have DI very soon. they also need to put the seats in the usdm sti that come standard in the jdm one...hopefully i am right time will tell though.

welcome to the MS3 from another former Subie owner (04 2.0 WRX)

as for the HID conversion info, I was always under the impression that the light housings and projectors between the GT and the sport were the same, just with different 'guts' if you will.

I hope you are right about that. I'd love to go HID, but I don't want to be one of those guys with the horribly aimed lights of death.

haha, i couldnt afford it. thats pretty laughable.

the GT is about a grand more than the sport. yeah, very expensive my friend

and if im not mistaking, the projectors are the same. and the sports can be manually adjusted so the sports projectors are adjustable.

your GT model has you feeling pretty frisky. maybe i need to get me GT so i can have an inflated ego as well
