Or rather, I need your help

My comp (running winXP) has developed the nasty habit of redirecting me to rather unsavory websites when I click on a link. I could click on a link to a review for The Lion King and it will send me to LOVE ANIMAL SEX LATEX HOT TEEN PUSSY PARADISE! or some such nonsense:rolleyes:. I also have it opening up a website all on its own, out of the blue, and it is really starting to piss me off:mad:. Anyone know how to get it to stop doing this, short of turning my computer into a paperweight?

well youve got a program thats doing that.

first thing is to go into control panels and go to "add or remove programs" and look for anything you didnt install or sounds suspicious.

next thing is to download this program called "ad-aware" from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ the free program is fine. run the program and have it remove all the things in there in finds.

If that doesnt get it then you might have to manually search for the program, which is a b****. also you can try and stop it by opening the task manager by pressing "ctrl-alt-delete" and look under programs and end anything looking supicious, then look under "processes" and look for anything like "sexad.exe" or something suspicious and end those processes. be careful in these steps though, you dont want to fuxxor your computer up more ;)

good luck.

Thanks a lot for the tips. I did the first two steps. It didn't fix the problem . I'll click on a link here at protege5.com and end up looking at pron. I'm scared to do the last step, as I have no clue what I am doing when it comes to stuff like this, but I am nearly to the point where I am going to defenestrate my computer (gun)
Any more advice?

Sounds like your modem bearings are getting bad. j/k

if all else fails, backup, format, reinstall...... you might wanna call on the help of someone local for that if your unsure.

I was having problems with pop up ads recently myself. I couldn't do anything without 10,000 pop-ups hitting me. I tried alot of pop-up blockers but they didn't help much if at all, so I went to www.downloads.com and searched for pop-up blockers and found a nifty little program for spyware. Which may be what your problem is. The program is called spybot search and destroy and it has been used by many. It worked for me hopefully it will work for you. Here is a link to download it... http://download.com.com/redir?pid=1...8&ontId=2144&destUrl=/3001-2144-10194058.html
Oh yeah, the best part about it is that its FREE! :)

all you need to do is re-format HD.... or like everyone else said (if you know what your doing) check your registry and look for anything that shouldn't be there. I had the same problem for a while, it is a program that is doing it and if you don't completely uninstall it, you will have this problem. Just backup everything you need and then do a clean install.

ad aware, and spybot, like the guys said. That should work.

also, click on START-RUN and type in msconfig in the box and hit enter. You'll get a window that opens, on the furthest right hand side, you'll see a tab that says STARTUP. Click there, now go through the list and see if there's anything starting up with you machine that might have something to do with this pussy paradise thing :)

Don't worry, whatever you turn off, it can be turned back on again the same way.

Take a look at your "task manager" (those little icons on your right hand corner) and see if there are ANY icons that you do not recognize. For example, Gator or some weird Calender. I would personally try and avoid installing additional program to stop pop-ups. After you find the unrecognize icons, right click and close them. Then go to your program files or Add/Remove program to see if they are in any of those places and remove them. Hope that solve your problem.

In addition, for you people out there that are currently using IE. I would highly recommend using MyIE2. It uses base of IE and create it's own browser. What's good? you only need one MyIE2 open and within that browser you can open several additional brower, and it only takes up one browser resources in your system. Also, MyIE2 has built in pop-up filters, so any sites I go to that has pop-ups, it'll automatically filter it for me so I don't have to install additional ad-ware to slow me down. ^_^

check it out! http://www.myie2.com/ It's Free too!

just stop looking at p0rn and youll be fine, also, when you go to a site and it says would you like to install..... dont, just click no..thats usually what happens why you get a pop up virus

Used to have a Mac... :(

just stop looking at p0rn and youll be fine
Heh, that's pretty good. Stop lookin' at porn. Seriously, what do think I should do. ;)

Havent downloaded spybot yet, gonna go do that next

Oh yeah. Diligent Fish: I have 14 things in my "Run" registry. only one of them actuall looks suspicious: Pointer(point32.exe)
Any words of advice?

1. make sure that nothing is installed in the add and remove programs under the control panel.

2. Run msconfig on your system to make sure nothing is starting up that you dont want to start up. Click on start, go to run, type in Msconfig. Go to the last tab which is start-up. In that list is every thing that starts up when your system. Starts.

3. clear out your cookies and your temp internet file. That from the browser, click on tools, go down to internet options. General tab click on delete cookies, and delete files and you can even clear history.

4 download adware or spybot which are all good adware and spyware stoppers. Spybot is better!

5. update your virus scanner and scan your system.

if all of that does not work, well your out of luck format and reinstall your system because youre the porn king!
