Compustar 2-way remote+starter install

Hi all,

So for xmas, I got some $$$ to get a remote starter. I would like to get the Compustar, like I got for my MP3, but as everyone knows, the MSP comes with an actual alarm system, whereas the MP3 came with just keyless entry. Needless to say, I'd like to cause as little damage to the stock system as possible.

In case you did not know, the compustar system is pretty sophisticated:

http://www.compustar.org/products/2WSS_features.html

A feature of particular interest in this application is:
- Factory Rearm/Disarm outputs

This would, in a way, allow the compustar to control arm/disarm controls of the stock system.

Of course this is all nice in theory. In practice, I think if the two systems were active at the same time it would be a funny fight. The compustar would want to keep the car running for the turbo timer. And the stock alarm would complain bitterly that it is armed, yet the car is still running.

Has anyone installed the compustar? More specifically, what would be the best way to install the compustar such that i could, one day, remove it and go back to stock?

Thanks and merry christmas.

get a compitant audio/alarm shop to do it...its a very complicated system

Enry, been that the mazdaspeed alarm is a Code Alarm that is "port installed" not "factory installed" system, it would be easier and better for you just to remove the whole system. It wont take you that long, and then you will be able to install the compustar at the same connecting points the "factory" alarm was installed. If you are doing the install yourself PM for a tip that will make your life easier and works great for the compustar remote start function.

I am thinking of having it done at a local shop.. after I find out how much they want for the install. Then again, there are VERY few places I actually trust with my car. Thanks for your pointers.

Pirana,

I have a question. On my MP3, my installer had to bypass the clutch completely (by wiring it as always pressed). This meant my car would start in gear if I was not careful. Is this necessary, or does the compustar posess the intelligence to simulate the clutch press only when necessary?

Thanks.

In my old car, I had to set it in reservation, ie, pull hand brake, leave car running, get out, close door. It would know it's in neutral.
Does our car have a in gear sensor?

When Pirana set up my alarm he tapped into some tranny wires that make compustar not start in gear. I also do not have to put car in reserveation mode. Its a very nice and clean install.

The wire is the neutral safety. The color is posted somewehre on this board.

Good luck.

correct, you dont have to bypass the clutch safety switch, you have to cut the loop in the compustar to set it like if it was an automatic, then you diode isolate the brake switch wire and "y" it to the tranny safety switch with another diode. The wire is the pink/green at the tranny. You can find it also in the ECU, but I find it easier to tap at the tranny itself. You need the two diodes so the brake lights dont trip the safety switch and vice-versa. Now you dont need the reservation mode. ;)

Okay, so let me get this straight.. the car will remote start only if the car is in neutral AND the handbrake is pulled, right?

Also, are we sure the clutch sensor does not need to patched through the compustar? Sorry to be repetitive, but if I am going to either do the install myself or ask someone to do it, I will need to be 100% sure on what to do. :)

right, the cluctch safety switch doesnt have to be touched. this wire sends +12v when in gear, and negative when in neutral. If you wire it the way I described, the Compustar will think you are pressing the brake pedal if left in gear, therefore not starting.

Coooooooool. I'm gonna do some shoping arround. To have an idea.. how much do you normally charge for the install?
