Compatible engine for '09 CX-9

I bought a '09 CX-9 and it has a blown head gasket. Are there any Mazda engines that are compatible to switch out?

Firstly, the 3.7L V6 in your 2009 CX-9 is from Ford and is notorious of having “internal” water pump leak where you may think it had blown head gasket and the oil is mixed with coolant. Search the forum and you can find the instruction to replace the water pump which may need to remove the engine.

If you’re sure you just want to replace the engine, you can search or contact LKQ trying to find an engine from a gen-1 CX-9 (2007 ~ 2015). Any Ford 3.7L V6 should be compatible physically but you may need a different PCM which would be a headache.

Even if you find a used 3.7L V6, make sure to put a new water pump in before you install the engine.

If your CX-9 is an AWD, you may need a new front transfer case too.

.....trying to find an engine from a gen-1 CX-9 (2007 ~ 2015). Any Ford 3.7L V6 should be compatible -physically.....

'08-15. '07 was the 3.5L.
