Compass and computer trip.

I checked the link but couldn't figure out exactly what additional info the upgrade would add for the CX-9.

The ability to read some more data (including torque). But the one thing that will be very useful for us would be putting cumulative fuel economy as one of the 4 data points in gauge mode, rather than just instantaneous fuel economy. (that's one use of the new "add-a-gauge" feature). I definitely want the upgrade, and it doesn't get any cheaper than free, but I've been too lazy to send it back as of yet. I do wish it was user-upgradeable...

So how do I get mine upgraded? Do I just call the company or what?

Great posts, pretty helpful for those people that really like to install aftermaket devices in your car.

I believe the cx-9 is full of nice details, makes me smile how they missed having a trip computer!!!

Trip Computer

We got our CX9 yesterday ... and it has a Trip Computer ... (alright)

the control comes with the stock HU ... there is an INFO button and this will toggle the display between Instantaneous, Average FC, Distance to Empty , average Speed , current speed . downside is the display takes over the CLOCK so you have to choose between the two.

even worse is ; for our region , we do not have the other goodies that you have over there in North America (i.e. Navigation , SmartKey , RSES , Bose , BSMS , etc )

for our metric-friends .... how can you change the AC temperature display to Celsius ??? My speedometer and trip meter is in metric but the AC displays Fahrenheit I think.

I'm curious if the fuel consumption display is accurate on your CX-9; you may want to manually check a tank or two just to see. That gauge on the same trip computer on the Mazdaspeed3's is consistently optimistic by 3 mpg.

thanks OMF.

I am just on my first half tank of gas ... but it seems the trip computer is quite accurate.

computer says AVE. FC is around 16Liters per 100 kilometers
so this equates to 6.25 km/liter or 14.7 mpg.

when I go by the Fuel Gauge ; 1/2 tank was left after around 260 kilometers so assuming 20 gallon tank or 76 liters ,
FC is around 6.9 km/liter or 16.22 mpg.

this FC is quite alright with me ... as traffic jams are especially bad this time of year where I come from.

will know for sure when next time I fill up the tank.

Well, this is very interesting, where do u live?? I mean they still didnt do it well, cause a real trip computer should have been in the middle of the gauge controls, between the speedometer and the tachometer. But is a surprise indeed... good !! congrats, hehe (flame2)
Still, losing all of those options like smartkey, navigation, bms, etc etc definitely doesnt compensate it. (silly)
