Coming from an RX8...

Well I owned a '05 6-speed 8 for about 2 months until I sold it about 3 weeks ago. Reasons for selling are complicated but damn I miss that car soo much.

Right now I'm looking around for a reliable, sporty car for under $15k and the MSP is one of the cars on my list. I've searched and read through quite a few threads earlier this week. Read a few auto-journalism reviews as well.

The things I liked best about the 8 was the handling. the oneness one feels with the car when driving, RWD, the specialness of the whole package, the 9.5k RPM redline of the rotary engine, and the looks. Everyday I'd look forward to jumping into the drivers seat of that car.

I know I can't expect much for under $15k but I want to get as close as that feeling of love for one's car as I can get.

The other cars on my list are:

WRX
Prelude
944 Turbo
240SX
RX-7 (I'm not sure about this car. The reliability horror stories scare me to death. But there are a few well-maintained ones in my area going for well under $15k.)
Mazdaspeed3???(Haha if I could afford this car I'd definitely buy one)

What do you guys think of my situation with regards to the MSP and the other cars on my list if you have experience with any of them?

msp with a unichip and you should be ok as long as you can get past that whole FWD thing.

dman, that was awfully quick

i would had pickedthe 240sx and the rest of the money would go on making it look and feel fast :P

The problem is is that I'm a full-time college student so I don't have the time to spend on modding a car.

I say 240 with an SR. Cheap and decently quick.

The problem with the SR is that its not legal in California. So how would I pass emissions, etc with that engine? The other option with the 240 is the KA with a Turbo.

It's a bit odd how alot of you guys (I've read other threads) would recommend another car over the MSP that you own. When I had the RX8, I couldn't think of any better car in the price range and would and still do recommend it for anyone with $20k+ to spend on a sports car.

Yes it is as long as you swap the sr20 from a same year or newer engine with ALL the standard emissions equipment that came on it that year. Look in the bay of the old Sentra SE-R's or the Last Sentra (2002) SE and the Nissan NX SE-R.

Dont get the RX-7 if ur not confident you can maintain it yourself. I believe you should look at the RWD cars on the list 1st, and then the FWDs. Since you're coming from the RX-8

Yeah okay thanks for the replies. I'm looking at 240's more seriously now, but I still got the MSP in the back of my mind.

Oh I vote for the MSP! but I just wanted to point out you CAN do a smog legal sr20 swap into a 240:)

a msp can be picked up for teh cheap, just include a unichip in the cost of the car. The unichip is plug and play and will keep you feeling zoom zoom like in an rx8. then you have handling, power and looks in a 4 door and when you are done school you can build a monster out of it.

I vote for the MSP, or, wrx. I own an msp and was debating between the MSP and WRX when I was buying. My first choice would have been an WRX but when you look at the best bang for buck it came down to the MSP. I couldn't find a WRX anywhere near the price tag of a MSP in the condition that mine was in. So MSP FTW.
