college admissions

I'm applying for grad school at Stanford and Cal.

Heard back from Stanford (got in, woo hoo!), but still waiting on Cal (which is where I really want to go).

Here's keeping my fingers crossed with the rest of you. :D

AHH the anticipation. I got into Rochester Institute of Technology and I really like it there. I got WAITLISTED (!!) at Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute probably because 3 people from my high school of 500 students applied there and one of them was CLASS RANK NUMBER ONE! ARGH he has a 60k scholarship too that they give to the number one class rank person from our high school every year.. and after all that he isn't going there. One of my best friend goes there so I've been up there a few times and if you ignore the town that it's in, it's great... but yeah.

Got rejected from Columbia University Fu Foundation of Engineering and Applied Science..

Got a letter from Carnegie Mellon, there was only one piece of paper in it I could tell so I just shredded it... I figure if it was some act of god and I got in, they'll send me more info later.

How The Hell Are Yall Paying For These Schools..
yeah, schools are crazy-expensive...my parents are basically payin though :p but thats cuz most the money i have ever gotten - like $$ from my bday and things like that, and the shitload of $$ i got on my bat mitzvah...that all went to my college account/stocks and all that good stuff...i wasnt allowed to go outta state unless it was ranked higher than U of M, which is ranked ****** high so yeah, i just got waitlisted on basically all my outta state schools :( prob cuz my senior year my grades went kaboom...like my gpa dropped .7 from my last quarter junior year to my 1st quarter senior year....it was not good :( i wish i kept up my grades so i could get some crazy scholarships like my friend who just got a goddamn full ride to emory

No one wants to be a yellow jacket?? Acutally if i had to do it over again, i would not be a yellow jacket either..

Im trying to transfer to a different school.

I applied to Champlain in burlington, VT and Westchester University in Pa.

(headshake blasphemy!!! (screwy)

tech was great. Although I do wonder what the semester system is like.
the quarter system rocked. Stupid board of regents making us switch.

if I had to do over again - I would of just stayed away from the crazy GA girls.

2.2 gpa from Tech and still got a good job baby!

I didn't either :( RIT is 30k a year plus expenses and uh... yeah they gave me 3000 but then i looked and it's a "federal work-study program" so i'll have to have an on campus job to make the money. And when I was in the financial aid office someone asked about it and they revealed that I would get the money in a paycheck and I would be responsible for putting it towards the tuition costs. DAMN YOU FAFSA! My sister is in college too... I'll be paying off loans for like 30 years.

Wow, I'm reading all those posts and thinking about how lucky I am. I'll be 27 in July, and I work in the IT field as a Network Admin. All I ever did was finish high school. I am self taught and basically just worked jobs to pay the bills up until about 3 years ago. I was lucky enough to start learning computers back when dos5.0 was in use, now I have friends who went to school and can't find jobs.

It's a crazy world. On the one hand, I have no debt (other than my car, which will be paid off by the end of the year), on the other hand, these kids going to school should end up making more than me. The problem is education vs. experience. Kids fresh out of school don't want to work for sub 40k/yr salary - they want to start over 60k/yr, most companies would rather hire the guy with years of experience instead of fresh cert'd graduates.

My advice - do well in school, study hard - and take what jobs you can find. In the IT field, people are always jumping for the next job with a higher salary. Just realize that your resume will speak volumes about your work ethic.

Good Luck.

damn man, that sucks, sorry :(

yaeh, my sister is in college too..and my dad just bought a whole practice, so obviously hes like major in debt b/c of it...its gonna be a quite few years until the $$ he makes is actually making a profit....so basically, its just my moms salary we have...but still, no financial aid....

when my tuition bill comes in, i get a check from the school. granted there are a few thousands in loans that go along with that, but my total financial aid package gives me money. i guess doing well in school does pay. then again, going to a school that costs 35k+/yr is rediculous so they better pay me.
