Cold weather behavior

I noticed that ever since the temperatures have dropped below freezing I have been experiencing difficulty getting the MS3 in gear. When I try to put it in reverse it takes several tries before it finally succeeds. Is this normal for the cold weather? Also my brakes tend to squeak a lot now whereas they never did before.
This is my first winter with the car so I don't know if this is what to expect.

The MS3 is a lot like my ex-GF. In cold weather, she is usually a bi**h
