cold shifts are very rough

Goldwing I totally see what you are saying, but i dont agree with both your points above
Not because everyone uses the term makes it right, however is the more valid reasoning. i agree with you where if the whole continent doesnt have enough in common it cannot be dubbed under the same name, but this raises the question, what gives one country the right to use it over the others? You say its part of the name, it is part of the name of Mexico and Brasil but they dont call themselves america.

Sorry AZJedi but i was definitely not sticking out for candians, but mostly for the rest of the continent. (lol2)

Mexico and Brazil have "America" as part of their name? (scratch)

I thought they were called "Mexico" and "Brazil", respectively. (dunno)

Oh... and have you made any progress on your shifting?

Update time...

Without batting an eye they said they were gonna replace the entire transmission. I'm like, ok, cool! And it was only gonna take a day. I figure they were using my car as a guinnea pig. I'm cool with that. (Here's hoping they use me as a test sample for a new MP3 player, the current stock model SUCKS :-| )

Yeah, they probably put in a rebuild. If that's the case, kiss your reliability out the window. Once you're warranty expires you're on your own. Sounds like you will have problems with the tranny from now until you get rid of the car. BtW, that's what happened to me with my Civic. Once they **** with your tranny, forget about reliability. I hate [auto] tranny rebuilds cuz they never replace ALL the parts only the bad ones.

Also, an update, my dealer has a supposed fix. I couldnt find it anywhere on the web. It will take a couple of hours to do. It does involve updating the computer and doing some other crap. The update is so new that they havent done any M3's but have done a few M6's. This service department is supposedly the busiest in Canada, Signature Mazda.

New PCM Update that addresses this issue. Call your dealer for details, but they may not have it yet as the update is that new.

Our M3SptGT with auto "stick shift" has about 5k kms on it and at about 4k kms it has started this rough shift from 1st to 2nd (at 18 to 20 km/hr). It can happen for up to 5 sequences with the severity of the kick lessening with each sequence. It is a sometimes event. After the 4th or 5 sequence it shifts smoothly. Our dealer hasn't heard of this problem but suggests that with colder weather approaching that a sensor in the transmission is slower to respond. I really don't buy this and expect a call to road side assistance at some point due to this problem. Sometimes it can be quite a kick for the first couple of shifting sequences. So if the problem first appeared in the '03 models it has remained in the design. With the jolting kick something will wear or fail.

By the end of winter I'll have whiplash !!

Is this in cold or warm temps...

my 01 mp3 will be hard to shift when the oils in the car get warm and thin out...alowing easyer shifting ....i dont know thats my case..

Guys,

Our trannies suck. I was hoping that they would get rid of the crunch in Mazda 3, but no. Makes me sad.

If you get a fly wheel it picks up very nicely. I have an aluminum one with a stage 2+ clutch and I love my tranny.(thumb)

what's a fly wheel? you mentioned clutch, so i guess it's only for the lucky's who drive stick, not us lazy guys huh?

any news on this PCM update, has anybody tried it yet. I'm think Dufferin mazda should know about it by now so i'm gonna give them a call soon. mine hasn't been acting up lately, the *reallyyyy* rough shifts happen rarely, but they come sometimes and i do suspect that they will return (again) in full force in a few weeks when this -43827483 degree weather becomes -98349204832071403 degrees below absolute zero. lol.

Booked an appointment for oil change and 5000km "check-up" today with the dealer. Asked about the PCM update regarding the transmission kick and was told they had a bulletin on the update for the "6". They will scan mine at the appointment on Nov5. and we will see. At least they have heard of the problem now! So if the update for the "6" is on paper, then can that for the "3" be that far away ???

What did someone say about cupons at the Mazda site for this type of service ??

Had the oil change/warranty check on Saturday....(Nov 5, 2005)
There was an update for the PCM regarding the transmission kick. So far the update by loading the newest flash file seems to have 90% cured the problem. There is still a slight bump from 1st to 2nd but them I'm really watching for something. It is much better.
